Updates from the Therapeutic Innovation Networks (TINs)
The Translational Research Office are pleased to announce the launch of the first Therapeutic Acceleration Support (TAS) Fund Digital Diagnostics & Therapeutics Call! We're inviting applications from UCL researchers working on projects driven by high quality software programs and technology to prevent, manage, or treat a broad spectrum of physical, mental, and behavioural conditions.
In the first TAS of its kind, the Digital Diagnostics & Therapeutics Call will support preliminary translational work on  projects up to a value of £35K (directly incurred costs only) for up to 6 months.

Applications will be considered from multidisciplinary teams combining digital and clinical expertise of investigators across different UCL faculties and the NHS.

Latest interviews from the TIN Early Career Innovators
In this interview, Dr Olga Kopach highlights her Regenerative Medicine Therapeutic Innovation Network (TIN) Pilot Data Scheme awarded project investigating the therapeutic potential of medicine encapsulation for treating chronic pain and nerve regeneration.

Olga comments on what she hopes to achieve during the scheme: "Thanks to this opportunity and support from the Regenerative Medicine TIN, I hope to collect a set of interesting and promising pilot data, which will help to achieve more funding in the future... I am looking forward to making this the backbone of my future fellowship applications and, in perspective, finding the translational direction for this approach as a breakthrough strategy."

Repurposing and Small Molecules
Invitation to attend and submit posters to the UCL Drug Discovery and Development Therapeutic Symposium
The in-person Symposium on Thurday 14th July will be a showcase and networking event for Small Molecules and Drug Repurposing at UCL, recognising our strengths and capabilities in novel and repurposed therapeutics and with an agenda that features successful researchers in the field from across the university and at all career stages.

We are offering UCL researchers the opportunity to showcase their active drug discovery and development activity by presenting a poster at our upcoming UCL Drug Discovery and Development Therapeutic Symposium. There will even be a prize for best poster!
We encourage UCL researchers at all career stages to take part of this opportunity to highlight your project to a highly relevant and specialised audience of Drug Discovery and Development experts (UCL academics and external, industry and potential funders/collaborators) as advisors and options for you to continue your translational work.

Joint translational funding from Action Medical Research and LifeArc
  • Outline Submission Deadline: 21st June 2022
Action Medical Research and LifeArc want to improve the lives of children suffering from rare disease and are working together to co-fund translational, rare disease research projects. Co-funding aims to accelerate promising, cutting-edge medical research that could have a significant impact on the treatment of infants, children and young people (CYP) with any of the >7000 heterogeneous conditions collectively called ‘rare disease’.

The joint fund will be used to support biomedical research projects from across the UK that have moved beyond a basic understanding of rare disease mechanism into the development of an intervention (therapeutic, diagnostic, or device). There is a total of £1 million available under this call. The fund aims to support a small number of high-quality projects of up to three years duration, providing a maximum of £250,000 per project.

The TRO are actively supporting applications for this funding opportunity so if you would like to apply, please contact Translational Research Group Head, Dr Pamela Tranter (p.tranter@ucl.ac.uk).
