The last Monday of May is Memorial Day in the United States. It became an official federal holiday in 1971. On this day, men and women who died while serving the US military are honored and remembered. It also unofficially marks the start of the summer season. One of the earliest Memorial Day ceremonies was held by freed African Americans - learn more.

Doc Lab is Seeking Proposals for Documentary Projects
The projects can be rooted in any discipline and/or be interdisciplinary in nature as long as they incorporate a humanities perspective. The projects can be based in any medium of preference. Maximum funding per project is 12,000 RMB.
All DKU students and faculty are eligible to apply.

Speaker: Dr. Jason Kelly (U.S. Naval War College)
Jason M. Kelly is Assistant Professor at the U.S. Naval War College and Associate in Research at the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University and was previously a Foreign Service Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.
