Hello Lake Whatcom Watershed Watcher Volunteers,

We hope you are getting outside to enjoy the sunny weather!

It is a great time of the year to be a Watershed Watcher and to make a difference in the Lake Whatcom watershed. This wonderful network of volunteers report stormwater issues, clean up litter through Whatcom County Health Department’s Adopt-a-Road program, keep stormwater infrastructure clear, and participate in volunteer events.

We have some fun opportunities to share with you.

But first:

  • If you are involved with Adopt-a-Road, please fill out THIS FORM to submit any May litter pick-up hours if you have not done so already. Interested in picking up litter in your area? Visit Whatcom Health Department’s website to sign up!

  • Have you seen signs of stormwater issues? If so, use THIS FORM to report them! Stormwater issues range from clogged culverts to discolored water. Visit our website to learn more about what to look for.

Thank you for your commitment to the Watershed Watchers program. If you have any questions for us, please email SWVolunteer@co.whatcom.wa.us

This Month’s Theme is “Water Quality”!
Do you know how to spot water pollution? Take a look at this guide to learn more about what to look for when reporting water quality issues. Check out the PIC program for even more information about pollution and the Whatcom Clean Water Program’s tips for keeping our water clean.

Did you know that wildlife and pets pose a threat to our water quality? Visit our website to take the “Scoop the Poop” pledge and learn how to identify and track wildlife as part of the week-long Whatcom Wildlife BioBlitz event.

Enjoy an "Evening at the Reserve"
Join the Whatcom Land Trust & Whatcom County Public Works for an evening at Stimpson Reserve as part of the Whatcom Wildlife Bioblitz on June 8th from 4:30pm-6:30pm at the Stimpson Family Nature Reserve! There will be games, booths, and naturalist led walks in the reserve with information on how to identify animals and their signs! Check out the website for more event information.

Find Fido - Recap

The Find Fido Scavenger Hunt event was successful last month despite the rainy weather. The county-wide scavenger hunt took participants around Whatcom County to twelve different parks searching for "Scooping Star" posters featuring some of last year's "We Scoop" photo contest entries.

Any team that found three or more posters was entered to win a scooping prize pack. One team found all twelve posters! Big kudos for their excellent sleuthing skills. Seventy-one teams participated in the event. A big thanks to all of our participants and event partners. Keep on scoopin'!
