What a wonderful day - it feels as though summer has arrived!
Your committee have been thinking hard of best ways to support our TTT ethos, while nurturing the amazing friendships that we have developed over the past years. The last 2 years have been very strange for everyone. Every age group has been affected in some way, and every family has been affected, some more than others, but we believe that we can emerge stronger and more united in our litter picking friendships, and our goals for TTT and Portishead.
So, what's new?
Socials
We will aim to organise social dates alternating between a Tuesday and a weekend date. The Tuesday event is to be social with a brief interval for informal update of what committee has
been doing before returning to chatter. These will be posted on Volunteer section of website as well as mentioned on Facebook - but the website will be the main source of info for all, with Facebook as a reminder or a secondary notification.
Can you help?
We would like to set up sub-committees to cover areas such as:
• Education - with 1 person overseeing an adult and a children’s section (responsibilities to
include accepting dates for talks/picks and ensuring volunteers to help at each)
• DoE - currently run very successfully by Coral and Dianne, but if anyone is interested in
joining with this please say
• Community Litter picks - sorting dates and times (awareness of tides) for quarterly litter
picks and identifying area to be picked, ensuring enough volunteers to help at each
• 2 Minute beach boards - Launching the boards has become very drawn out process, but
once all boards are launched, we need 1 person to take overall responsibility for the
boards, risk assessments and stock checking bags, pickers etc; helped by a named
individual to monitor each individual board, as Kate currently does with the Lido board
Simply reply to this email if you'd like to put yourself forward for any of these sub-committees.
Restarting community litter picks
We would also like to reintroduce community beach cleans/litter picks.
We feel that there is always plenty of litter at Lake Grounds and surrounding area so we're
suggesting a quarterly community pick, with the first one to coincide with Portishead Big
Clean weekend at end of June.
In light of this we are organising a Community Beach Clean at Lake Grounds/Woodhill Beach on
Sunday 26th June at 10:30am
Let us know if you are able to help with this - there will be a poll on the Facebook
Volunteers page to indicate if you can help out.
Have Your Say!
If you have some feedback, a story or project, or even just something nice you'd like to share with the Turn The Tide volunteers, click the button below and we'll add it to the next newsletter or agenda.
We are a group of volunteers dedicated to reducing the pollution of Portishead’s beautiful beaches and streets
through regular litter picks and educational projects to reduce single use plastic. If you would like to know more about volunteering, please get in touch.
