A Snapshot and Story from the Kelleys serving in Hungary!

I am chuffed to report that May felt like our first "normal" month in ages. After consecutive years of changing pandemic restrictions and layered crises over the past year, "normal" felt pretty a-MAY-zing. See what I did there? ... Yeah, I am pretty tired.

Here are a few of the events that made May feel normal.

1. Family Field Day!
This was the first Family Field Day we have been able to hold in person for three years. This (normally) annual event is full of fun traditions, like pie-ing teachers that are leaving ICSB and elaborate team chants. It was great to see the parents get involved in the silly events and to get away from campus for the day.

2. Birthday Party!

Annalise's past two birthdays have passed in lockdowns, where friends couldn't celebrate together. This year, without gathering limits, we we able to host several of her friends at our house for a painting party!

3. Upper School Musical!
The cast and crew of this year's upper school musical were able to rehearse as scheduled, performances were open to the entire community, masks weren't required, and we didn't have to start early to accommodate an evening curfew! It was a delight to watch the students, including many of our former grades 6-8 students, perform Singin' in the Rain in-person.

We were grateful to have a month without any new crises. The lull allowed us to buckle down and make progress on important projects, like processing staff and student applications for next year, and prepare for the final push to wrap up the 2021-2022 school year.

In next month's Snapshot and Story we will spend some time reflecting on the entire school year. We're excited to share some of the ways God has been at work in us and at ICSB this year. For now, it is such a relief to have a "normal" month. Thank you for your sustaining prayers and vital partnership in ministry to Third-Culture Kids and teachers at ICSB! We are feeling the fatigue of the year catching up to us, but it is because of you that we are able to press on to finish on June 9!

Pray With Us

  • Praise God for his faithfulness! We have had so much interest in ICSB that some grades are literally maxed to fire code capacity, with other students on waiting lists! Pray that God will give wisdom, guide the timing of applications, and guide families who are still undecided so that those students who most need a spot will get one.
  • Please pray the Ukrainian families will continue to adjust to life in Hungary. Ukrainian families who joined ICSB last month are still adjusting to cultural differences and a new school system. Pray the children will continue to acclimate, process trauma healthily, and grow academically.
  • Pray for healthy bodies and minds. Please pray for supernatural protection from all illnesses and spiritual, mental, and emotional endurance for our family and all the teachers as we seek to serve diligently.
  • Pray for a strong finish. The school year ends on June 9. Jenn and the kids are done on June 9, but Dave will work a reduced schedule through most of the summer. Please pray for healthy motivation and endurance to finish well.
  • Pray for staffing needs in the 22-23 school year. Dave's offered teaching positions to five new staff members living on three different continents; pray their funding will come in time for them to join us in August. Since we last wrote, two more teachers told Dave they will not be returning for at least part of next year. Pray God will call godly teachers to come to ICSB to fill the following roles: 3-8 technology, K-8 art, and K-8 music teachers! See the full list here
