We have a very generous community!

Cottonwood families,

We are so excited for Cottonwood Gifts Day on Tuesday the 24th!  As you may know, we have been celebrating the Cottonwood tree for the past few months as we have watched our tree in the side yard transition from winter to spring. We have learned lessons from and about the tree, seen the stars in the branches, and some of us have made healing salve with the buds. The Cottonwood is a wellspring. It holds so much water in it’s branches that it is well suited for drought or other adverse conditions. It supports the community of plants and animals around and under the canopy. It teaches us to consider our own wellspring- what makes us strong? Where do we come from? Who do we come from? What do we have stored in our trunks to help us overcome adversity? How do we share this strength with others?

Each class has created a Cottonwood-inspired gift for the school and Tuesday is the day we share these gifts with each other. Some classes have done art projects, some have created songs or poems, and some have created physical gifts for each child.

We will end the day with the whole school coming together outside (for the first time all year!) to sing our new Cottonwood song written and led by McLean and the 7th graders! This will be around 2:45 in the playground in case any of you want to come a little early to pickup and join the celebration from outside the gate.

Cheers to you all! We are really looking forward to celebrating the Cottonwood tree and our amazing community.

Join the Cottonwood School Board or DEI Committee

The Cottonwood School Board and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee are both recruiting for new members to join!

Both groups are important bridges between school and community especially as the Board and Committee collaborate with staff to advance our
Equity Work Plan.

We value diversity of experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. You are welcome to join one or even both groups. Let us know you are interested by completing the form on the website and a current member will follow up with you. We would love to hear you from by May 27th so that we can connect with you before meetings in June.
