MAHC Eviction Report Shared with Sen. King to Support Eviction Crisis Act

On May 19, MAHC joined the National Alliance to End Homelessness alongside Maine housing and rental assistance providers to meet wtih Sen. King in support of the bipartisan Eviction Crisis Act (S.2182). MAHC shared its study on Maine evictions before the pandemic when Maine had ~5,800 annual evictions. The data was updated during the pandemic when short-term Emergency Rental Assistance was available and reduced the statewide number of evictions by 40%.  The Eviction Crisis Act would create new tools to address the devastating impacts of evictions on individuals and families and create a foundation for cost-effective prevention in the future. Among these tools is the creation of a permanent emergency rental assistance fund to help low-income households absorb an unexpected economic shock and remain stably housed. Learn more here.
