| PRWIN Directors completed our spring tree planting season with a couple of our local community landowners. Seedlings have been planted to create a wind break, a buffer and reforestation of farm land. This is another step moving forward to improve the water quality in our community watershed. Our seedlings included a variety of red maple, white cedar, white spruce, Norway spruce, white oak, black walnut and black cherry. Thank you to our PRWIN Directors David Grant, Murray Jamieson, Don Farrell, Bill Smith, and volunteers Jim Roberts and Connor Dixon for their time and efforts to complete the reforestation sites. Special thank you to Maitland Valley Conservation Authority and Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority for sourcing the seedlings. |

This last week of May, PRWIN Directors and the 4H Conservation Club teamed up to tidy up a mature reforestion site in Kincardine Township. Directors and volunteers removed old white field tiles from the bottom of trees along a fence line, checked tree tubex for living/dead trees and fixed stakes to secure them for the thriving trees.
Also, they had the chance to remove tent caterpillar nests (by hand with gloves) Special thank you to Director Mel Moulton for organizing the work bee and to the 4H Conservation Club for joining us.

PRWIN Directors and the 4H Conservation Club worked together to spring-clean The McLarty Environmental Study Area. Directors, volunteers and 4H members removed tubex and stakes from mature trees, trimmed branches, cut grass for pathways, and assisted with spring maintenance of the picnic tables, bird houses and sheds.
Thank you for all your efforts to prepare the McLarty Centre for the summer season.

We love our community! We are well known for taking care of our watershed and have developed a very approachable relationship with landowners. We welcome projects from local landowners. Berms, tree planting, cattle crossing and wetlands are the majority of project requests.
Landowners allow us to help them manage in ground projects by working together to secure funding and co-ordinate contractors.
It is a great opportunity!
Private landowner participation is vital to the success of our watershed.

SPRING MAINTENANCE OF
RAIN GARDEN
|
|
Gary and Mel Moulton volunteered their time and efforts to tidy up the rain garden located beside the Ripley Library. The rain garden was established in 2017 by PRWIN directors, volunteers and community groups. The annual spring clean up of the rain garden is vital so the rain garden is able absorb and filter storm-water run-off the roof of the Ripley Library.
Thank you to the Moulton's and our many community volunteers that continue to help to revitalize our village!

REMEMBERING JACK CAMPBELL
|
|
This week, long time past PRWIN Chairperson/Director and volunteer, Jack Campbell passed away.
Jack Campbell was a member with our organization for over 20 years. Jack was one of the co–founders of PRWIN when it was started in 2000 by a group of citizens concerned about the water quality in the Pine River.
Jack gave countless volunteer hours to our organization along with many other community groups. PRWIN Directors respected Jack and his vision for the Pine River Watershed. PRWIN would not be where we are today without his leadership and dedication to our vision of “Clean water and a healthy ecosystem within the Pine River watershed.” Jack was the lead director to establish the PRWIN constitution for our non profit organization and he helped to connect farm owners and cottagers to preserve our community watershed.
Even after Jack retired from the board, he would attend PRWIN seedling planting sessions and board lunches, always connecting with our PRWIN committee.
On behalf of the board of directors, past and present, we wanted to extend our condolences to Linda and family. Jack will be missed by his dedication to important projects and his love of community.
