Athens Classic, Inc. - Weekly Election Bulletin, Monday, May 23, 2022

Advance and Absentee voting picked up considerably across Athens/Clarke County during the final week of early voting.  More than 10,000 ballots have been cast, and just over 1000 of those are Absentee ballots.

Tuesday, May 24, 2022 is the General Primary Election Day if you have not yet voted.  All precincts are open from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

If you need help reconfirming your voting precinct, you may find that information here.

You may also hand deliver your Absentee Ballot, as well as those of your direct family members, to the Drop Box located in the Clarke County Board of Elections Office -

Athens/Clarke County Elections Office -

Athens, GA 30601

Phone: 706-613-3150

As all Absentee Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted, we STRONGLY recommend that if you have not already mailed your ballot, then please deliver your Absentee Ballot via Drop Box by hand, to assure that your ballot is counted, by 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Though Clarke County had been lagging in early vote, the increased pace now has the ACC vote nearly double that of neighboring Oconee County.  All local election contests for Mayor, ACC Commission and School Board are non-partisan and appear on the Democratic, Republican and Nonpartisan ballots.

Top of the ticket primary contests for Governor and U.S. Senator have caused the Georgia GOP primary to dominate voting statewide, and while Clarke County began Advance Voting with a strong lead by Democrats, that has narrowed to roughly 5000 Democratic ballots and 4000 Republican ballots among the Advance and Absentee ballots cast thus far.

There were 18,066 ballots cast in the 2018 Mayor's race.

We will post the results of these 2022 contests for Mayor and Commission Districts # 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, as well as the School Board races as soon as those results are available.

Runoff Contests Expected:

The General Primary runoff, as well as local nonpartisan runoff contests, will take place on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.  There will be only one-week of Advance Voting.

You do NOT have to have voted in the General Primary Election, or any May 24th election contests to vote in the runoff races, as long as you are a registered voter.  The only thing you CANNOT do is cross over from one party's General Primary contest (and ballot), to the other party's Runoff.

We will post a complete list of Advance Voting locations for the Runoffs as those become available.

Thanks again for your efforts, time and support!

Athens Classic, Inc. is an all volunteer, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.  Though we originally came together over concerns about proposals to make significant cuts in local public safety spending, that portfolio of issues has been broadened to include public education and public health, as well as seeking more centrist, common sense elected and appointed leadership for our community.
While in recent years it would appear that only the loudest voices are heard, we are a diverse community of more than 125,000 residents and college students.  Though the geographically smallest county in the state of Georgia, we are home to its flagship university and public land grant college.  As the University of Georgia is a shared asset of millions of Georgians since its founding, love and appreciation for the Classic City extends well beyond our city limits.

We want to recognize and thank our many donors, volunteers and the leaders on our Board of Directors, as well as those leading the efforts of our Political Action Committee - and each of you helping to make our voices and votes heard.  Now is the time.

Win or lose, we have hunkered down and given it the old college try.  With your continuing support at the polls on Tuesday, we hope to soon be on a solid path to keeping our Classic City classic, clean and safe for everyone.  But with your help, and a few more thousand votes, we think we can win.
