End of Year Teacher Gifts/Staff Appreciation Fund

The end of the school year is near and so it is time to show our gratitude for our
teachers and staff. We will gather monetary donations into one pot to be distributed
among all of our teachers and staff to ensure all staff at Kingsley receive a comparable
monetary gift.

This gift donation is absolutely voluntary, but we find all of our teachers and staff are
extremely grateful to receive a little extra cash at the end of the year. Any amount is
appreciated.

If you'd like to donate to a monetary gift for all the Kingsley teachers and staff that connect with your child and make our school such a terrific place, you can give in the below ways:
CheddarUp: https://my.cheddarup.com/c/kingsley-teacher-and-staff-end-of-year-gift
Zelle: kent@kentlee.commichelle.dahl21@gmail.com or vanessa.dillingham@gmail.com
Venmo: Michelle-Dahl-6 (last four of cell are 0980)
Cash or check can be left in the PTA mailbox in the Kingsley lobby

In addition to this collective monetary gift, we also encourage families/classes to send
personal notes, cards, pictures, etc. to their teachers to let them know how much they
are appreciated!

All playdates (Thu, June 9th at 4:30pm, Sat July 9th at 9:00am and Sun Aug 21st at 10am) will be at the playground at Kingsley. See here for more information.

Math Curriculum Night - tonight!

Join us on tonight - Tuesday, May 24th at 6:30pm on Zoom to learn about new enhancements in the K-5 math curriculum coming next Fall! We've learned a lot over the past two years and we are excited to share coming improvements to D65's math materials, including the introduction of the top-rated i-Ready Classroom into our K-5 classrooms. We invite you to join us to ask questions and learn more, including how you can best support your child's learning at home!

For questions about either event, feel free to contact
Tania Margonza (margonzat@district65.netor David Wartowski (wartowskid@district65.net).

Kingsley is excited to be a part of PEP FEST!

Join us Saturday June 4th, 11am-6pm on the Washington School playground (914 Ashland Ave in Evanston) for PEP Fest. PEP Fest is a family-focused, collaborative community effort to increase affiliation and raise PTA funds that will be equitably distributed to support all of our D65 students. PEP Fest will include FREE family-friendly activities and will include vendors of arts, crafts, clothing, jewelry, goods and food. In addition, there will be a raffle for items donated to PEP Fest by our vendors, local businesses and community partners, as well as a 50/50 split the pot raffle. Please COME OUT to join the fun with your fellow Kingsley families.

In addition to vendors, each D65 school will have a table at PEP Fest where they can provide family-focused activities - we need your help to staff the table! Please click this link to sign up for a one-hour time slot to host an activity of your choosing. Bring a friend to double the fun while your kids explore PEP Fest!  Ideas include:
  • Leading a craft
  • Hosting a “Carnival Game”
  • Leading a “read-aloud”
  • Really, anything that you think kids would enjoy!
Please reach out to Jill Kidd with any questions or visit www.PTAEquityproject.com or click here to learn more.

Fortnightly is Back in the Fall of 2022!

The North End Mothers Club has recently rebranded itself as Women for Evanston Youth, and plans to bring back Fortnightly dance classes this fall for its 103rd season, with the continued goal of building community and fostering connections among Evanston youth. — with an updated spin.

While there will still be an opportunity to learn traditional ballroom dance, this year brings the addition of Marcus Brown (D.I.M.E.), and there will no longer be a formal dress code. New this year as well, Fortnightly will relocate to the Levy Center. Two things that haven't changed: scholarships are readily available, and all proceeds go towards Evanston orgs such as Evanston Case, Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse, The Infant Welfare Society of Evanston, Y.O.U., the YWCA, and more.

Fortnightly is open to all rising 6th and 7th graders in Evanston, and registration will begin May 9th.

More New Great Ways to Get Involved with the D65 Climate Action Initiative

Consider signing your yard up for No Mow May! Join our friends at Natural Habitat Evanston is this effort to park the lawn equipment through May, and save on fumes, noise, and costs. Let birds, bees, and other pollinators forage nectar and seed from blooming violets, clover, and grass.

D65 Lunchroom Composting: Did you know? As of mid-March, 26,720 lbs of food scraps have been composted just this school year at 7 schools (including Kingsley!) and 90,340 trays composted at 8 schools! Thanks to the Kingsley administration, staff, families and students for making this happen.

Community Support and Events

KINGSLEY ESCCA

ESCCA is an all-volunteer organization that makes clothing available to all K-8th grade children of Evanston/Skokie District 65 Schools.  Each year it provides clothing and shoes/boots to 650-700 children.  Every child receives a full wardrobe of clothing, mostly gently-used items, and also new gym shoes, boots, underwear and jeans.

A parent or guardian may request ESCCA services for a District 65 child by contacting his or her school health clerk, Juanita Barrett (barrettj2@district65.net or 847-859-8402), social worker, Clarissa Rosenberg (rosenbergc@district65.net or 847-859-8408) or school principal, David Davis (davisda@district65.net or 847-859-8401).
