Garden of Flags for Memorial Day
In honor of Memorial Day (Monday, May 30), volunteers will plant thousands of American Flags on the Boston Common to commemorate Massachusetts service members from the Revolutionary War forward. The end result is more than 37,000 flags blanketing the historic green space. You can participate in the planting process or simply admire the breathtaking display all through Memorial Day weekend.
Experience Harvard Art Museums like you never have before. From 5-9 p.m. the museum will be open late and offering free admission. You can peruse the galleries and enjoy live music, performances, and food and beverage options in the museum’s courtyard. Don’t forget to check out the works by local makers on display during the event as well. If you can’t make this evening event, Harvard Art Museums are offering free daily admission this week on Wednesday and Thursday to commemorate their graduating class and Sunday for their weekly free day.
A true sign of spring is the ICA Boston opening their free East Boston satellite location, the Watershed. This year six artists have created large-scale, site-specific installations for the warehouse gallery space. Focusing on sustainability, the installations all repurpose industrial and everyday materials. The Watershed is always free and open to the public and the ICA offers a water taxi service from the Seaport location to East Boston when you purchase a general admission ticket to the ICA. Don’t forget, the main location is free on Thursday nights.
In celebration of Boston Calling weekend, Sam Adams is hosting their own Mini Music Festival for free! Watch five local acts perform throughout Thursday evening and enter a raffle to win tickets to the Saturday lineup of Boston Calling. Sam Adams will have their usual 16 draft beer options and they’ll also be whipping up beer slushies for the occasion. If you’re so inclined, food trucks will be on site as well.
