A special thank you to the Plant Sale Committee who did another fabulous job organizing and running a successful plant sale. Susan Dodd and Sandy Bott do a great job heading up this committee. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped get things set up on the Friday, labelling and pricing the plants and helped on Saturday with the many tasks. We had a fun and wonderful day. Even the weather cooperated.

MARK YOUR CALENDERS for this exciting opportunity!!! On Sunday, June 12th we will be meeting at The Gardens at Pillar & Post on John Street (across from the hotel)  for a members only tour led by Haig Seferian, the Principal Landscape Architect of the Seferian Design Group, the creator of the garden. Our tour will begin promptly at 12pm in the barn for coffee, a brief presentation and a Q&A session. From 1pm - 2pm we will be touring the garden. We will have to be prompt as they do have weddings and events going on in the garden throughout that day as well. Please let Cindy Grant - cgrant36@cogeco.ca know if you are planning to attend so that we can plan for the numbers. We will also have sign-up sheets at the meeting.

NASSAU/WILLIAM PARK:

We will be planting our pollinator garden in the next couple of weeks and will let you know about a planting day. We are also looking for volunteers to help with the on-going maintenance at our park at the corner of William and Nassau streets. We would like to set up teams so that there will be 2-3 people/week to weed and water the garden. Hopefully, we have enough volunteers sign up so that each team will hopefully just have to do one or two weeks during the summer months. We will have sign up sheets at this coming meeting for anyone wanting to volunteer their time. If you are not attending Tuesday's meeting but would like to sign up please email Joanne at notlhortsociety@gmail.com to let her know. Thank you for your help.

GARDEN TOUR  - The Garden Tour committee is pleased to report that we have almost 30 gardens to showcase on our Open Tour on Saturday July 9. Gloria Thurston and I have started to preview each of them and are excited with the variety and uniqueness. It will be a spectacular day!! There will be sign-up sheets at the meeting for members to sign up as garden sitters on that day.. We are not yet sure of the total numbers we require to cover all the gardens but we will need as many of you as possible to cover the number of gardens we have. Thank you in advance.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!

GARDEN OF THE WEEK - Volunteers 2022

This year, Garden of the Week will return to judging front gardens that have been nominated by the residents of Niagara on the Lake.

I am co-ordinating this year’s Garden of the Week program and am looking for volunteers to be lead judges and judges from June 1st to August 31st. I am reaching out to membership as a lot of you have volunteered in the past.

Here’s a brief review of this year’s program:
  • All of NOTL–Old Town, Virgil, Garrison Village, The Village, St. David’s, Queenston, and Glendale will be involved.
  • Judges will consist of 3 people, one being the lead judge
  • Residential front gardens only
  • Deadline for the public and self-nominations are Monday nights
  • I will provide information required to the judges for that week
  • Judging will start 9:30 am Wednesday (meet at the Community Centre) with Thursday being an alternative if necessary
  • Gardens will be judged on several features including curb appeal, colour, texture, design, maintenance, decorative features (score sheets provided)
  • These criteria put homeowners who create and do their own gardening on a level playing field with those who use the design and maintenance services of a professional
  • Winner and photo with a brief description of the garden to be sent to me by the latest Friday morning to forward to the press for publication the following week

If you are interested, please send me a message indicating the dates you would be available to az2notl37@gmail.com. If you have any questions please email me or phone 289 868 9328. Thank you for your support!
