It's June. The days are shorter, but longer nights mean more time to watch movies and shows to binge. So hurrah for June!

MyPrimo Portal Maintenance

Hi folks,

The Primo customer portal  will be out of action on:
Tuesday June 21, between 4am and 6am.

We're doing an upgrade on our Splynx customer service software and it could take the full two hours.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Josh Cook, installer guy

Josh Cook has been getting some great feedback in his first few months of joining the Primo installation team.

The Stratford native's been enjoying being out on the road connecting up people to Primo's network. So far he's got out as far as Kōhuratahi which is just past Whangamōmona. But there'll be even quieter places to see.

He is a good example of someone who has the  great mix of skills needed for the job, just in a slightly different way.

Before Primo Josh worked for 10 years at ANZCO Foods in Eltham packing orders, driving the forklift and other good grunty stuff. But in his spare time he studied IT through  eCampus and LinkedIn doing courses in networking, cyber security and other techie stuff.

It will all be put to good use. We might even find a forklift for him one day ...

Signing off on the signal

Primo’s Shaun du Plessis goes over all the gear that's been installed at Primo's South Patea site with Crown Infrastructure Partners' Ron Stevens.

Primo has been contracted by the government - by way of the Rural Broadband programme - to build a number of broadband sites to reach areas which don’t have it.

Crown Infrastructure Partners (CIP) manages the build programme for the Rural Broadband programme.
Part of the deal is that when a wireless site is built, it may be inspected as part of the User Acceptance Testing to check that all the equipment contracted for is installed, and the speeds are at the agreed level to provide a quality service.

CIP inspector Ron Stevens came up from Wellington to have a look at the tower at South Pātea and a site on Arawhata Rd.

(There may have also been a stop at the Yarrows Bakery shop in Manaia.)
Thanks to everyone who got on to making their Mooving Day bookings early.

Our installation team has been out busily connecting everyone up, through rain and hail and bright sunny days.

The help desk team have also been busy, slaving away over hot phones with plenty of calls for new sign-ups and technical queries. Usually we get about 270 calls a week, and for last week they had 389 calls. Pretty good for our small team of 5-6 helpdesk staff.

If you were Mooving, hope it went well!!!

Building the network

There's been a big leap forward for Primo providing a premium service around coastal Taranaki with a major upgrade of the Boarshead site on the Kaitake Ranges.

Built 10 years ago on a site that took months of digging, breaking rocks and hauling gear up on the back of quad bikes, the site has now got mains power put in, as well as fibre optic cable laid to it.

Primo's Matt Harrison says it's all due to the original permission from some amazing landowners to use the site, and thanks to funding from the government with its Rural Capacity Upgrade program.

"These upgrades mean the site is now future-proofed for any new technology that comes our way and ensures a fully-connected coastal Taranaki community into the future!"

Stage two will be a complete rebuild of the site and installing the newest wireless technology to improve network capacity.

Newest Primo site

These shots are of the newest site build called Okau Extension and are care of site team member Sam Adlam. (It's kind of near Ahititi, on the way to Damper Falls.)

Lee the goat whisperer

Lee Diamond is one of our site field technicians.

In his spare time he breeds heritage Rawhiti goats on his farm and his latest addition is Larry the Kid, at right.

The other pic shows Lee with a wilder variety of goat that he found at one of the more remote Primo build sites.
