Koroit in the footsteps of HHR
 - a new walking tour app

Koroit - now a charming small town in south western Victoria - was once HHR's home for one very significant year from 1878-9. After the physical and mental decline of her father, her mother took her first position as Postmistress in Koroit. Her father came home to the Post Office and died there in 1879. He is buried in the cemetery on the outskirts of the town. HHR later transformed this traumatic experience into fictiion in the trilogy, The Fortunes of Richard Mahony. She also wrote about Koroit in her memoir, Myself When Young.
Thanks to the wonderful work of Brigid Magner our second free HHR walking tour, this time of Koroit is now available along with the first one of Chiltern. You can follow the paths HHR walked as a young girl. At each 'site', including the Post Office, the Hotel, the Rectory and the cemetery, you can see photos and listen to the information about the site, followed by relevant readings from HHR texts. The walk can be done in Koroit itself or in the comfort of your home.
