CCNA Creates Health Equity Series First Focus: Mental Health Awareness: A Call to Action
(May 16, 2022) Alexandria, VA - The Concerned Citizens Network of Alexandria (CCNA) is producing a virtual series on Health Equity. Conducted monthly, the first in the series looks at Mental Health Awareness and its importance to the community.
It will be held live Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 1pm to 2pm (EST) on STEM City USA (https://stemcityusa.com).
Join us as we discuss the need for awareness, community impact, barriers to care, and effective dialogue to normalize (de-stigmatize) mental health problems, especially in communities of color. We will also talk about equitable health resources.
While this first segment offers an overview of the issues at hand, this series is a call to action, says Andrea Hirsch, CCNA’s Health Coordinator. “There is so much that needs to be addressed, but first we need community awareness of all the different aspects of mental health and the roadblocks to care,” adds Hirsch, who is a clinical psychologist.
CCNA is opening its Health Equity series on STEM City. A virtual platform, STEM City provides space for communities to come together to overcome socio-economic, geographic, and access barriers to create flourishing and nurturing places for all citizens to grow and thrive.
