Advocacy (ADV)
Hello, My name is Courtney Smith and I am the secretary of the Board of Directors. I will be serving as committee chair for Advocacy. I have been involved for many years in the Pennsylvania Pharmacist Association in hopes of expanding our currents roles in our profession. I have helped with organizing legislative meetings, letter writing campaigns, and events within the state. Please join me for our first meeting on Thursday, June 16th at 8 pm EST to discuss our upcoming goals for the year and ideas on advocating for Cannabis rights through the globe.

Education and Professional Development (EPD): meets on the 1st Tuesday
EPD is busy with educational events and journal clubs. If you are interested in drafting a letter to an academic institution or are able to participate in our MTM pilot program, join us!
Next meeting is June 7th at 8 pm EST

Membership (MBR): meets on the 2nd Monday
Mbr is actively working on securing new joint membership partnerships with various organizations. Mbr will also be coming together to discuss local networking events and in-person meet ups.
Next meeting is June 13th at 8 pm EST

Quality Assurance and Patient Safety (QAPS): meets on the 3rd Monday
QAPS is ready for the full committee to peer review the formulation guides (inhalation was previously posted here). QAPS is also leading the educational series; Cannabis Consequences 101 and seeking potential speakers/authors for the next round of topics focused on safety.
Next meeting June 20th at 815 pm EST

Clinical Practice and Research (CPR): meets on the 3rd Tuesday
CPR is almost done with their research paper focusing on the older adult. CPR is also working on their clinical compendium next topics and needs volunteers interested in writing up a symptom or condition.
Next meeting is June 21st at 8 pm EST

Finance (FIN): meets on an as-needed basis
Next meeting is not scheduled at this time

Meet Lex Casanova (pronouns: she/they; pronounced: Lex Cas-ah-noh-vah). Lex chairs our Membership Committee and brings their unique perspective to our Board of Directors. A recent graduate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, Lex is currently studying for Boards and searching for job opportunities in the cannabis industry.

Although its healing powers are undeniable, cannabinoid medicine is not hazard-free. Lex is dedicated to ensuring patient safety in an industry that is largely unregulated. Lex works to support patients, particularly those from marginalized communities, in accessing and consuming cannabis safely. Through education and advocacy efforts, Lex has demonstrated unparalleled passion for cannabis health equity.

Lex loves pop music (Lorde is their all-time favorite artist), graphic design (ask them about their cannabis infographics!) and team sports (although, currently recovering from an ACL tear, they’ve been enjoying long walks and bicycle rides).
