The Longfellow Community Yard Sale Returns June 18

Though we took a break from LCA events in May, neighbors have been hard at work planning the return of a neighborhood favorite--the Longfellow Community Yard Sale!

As tradition dictates, Longfellow neighbors are invited to host a sale in your yard or driveway on June 18 from 9 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

This year we're introducing a new twist--you can also host a "free sale" for your spring cleaning purge.

So, whether you have stuff to sell, give away, or both, now's the time to gather it up and sign up to list your sale. The deadline to be added to the official yard sale map is Wednesday, June 8

LCA will publish a map of all the sales in the neighborhood about a week prior to the event. We'll take care of the promotion, so all you have to do is sell--and others from within and outside the neighborhood can come shop 'till they drop.

Please note that all sales must be attended—no curb alerts. If you do not live in a sale-friendly location, you can sign up to be paired with another nearby sale and we'll do our best to match you with a host.

List Your Sale
Volunteers are also needed for pre-sale promotion and day-of logistics. Questions? Want to volunteer? Send a note to neighbor Eric Davila.

For Oakland, By Oakland

City Challenge Oakland Extended to June 1

The City of Oakland, Mills College, The Oakland Fund for Public Innovation, and The Burnes Center for Social Change have come together to launch the City Challenge Oakland -- a challenge that taps the experience and expertise of Oakland residents to co-design solutions to some of our City’s toughest problems.

At its heart, this project is about having Oaklanders from all over the city contribute innovative ideas on how to address some of our most pressing challenges in the coming year. The goal of the City Challenge is to help Oakland transition from closed-door to open and collaborative governance, where the City codesigns solutions to public problems with residents. By working together, the hope is to develop practical solutions while promoting equity and strengthening participatory democracy.

Finalists will receive $100, and winners will receive $250.

Submit your solution by June 1.

First Draft of Housing Element Now Available for Public Review

While work on Oakland's new General Plan, Oakland 2045, continues, the City has published the draft Housing Element for public review. The Housing Element outlines the strategies and policies the City will implement over the next eight years in order to meet Oakland’s housing needs. The Housing Element was last updated in 2015 and is now being updated with public input to reflect the recent housing opportunities, challenges, and approaches that have emerged in the Oakland community, as well as to comply with new state laws.

Download the draft Housing Element and keep up with the latest news regarding the Oakland General Plan update at the Oakland 2045 website.
