A Tribute to the Composers Land, Sea and Sky"Damiano D’Ambrosio continues to expand his already vast catalog of composer of our time with works for different formations, demonstrating both a tireless curiosity for combinations of instruments and a total consistency with respect to his personal, unique and unmistakable style. Cellomar. The title is obtained simply by combining in an acronym the two intended instruments of the piece: the cello and the marimba (the dedication is to the two respective reference performers, the virtuoso cellist from Bari, Luciano Tarantino, and the percussionist from Matera, Ilaria Paolicelli, a very talented young woman who turned 19 in 2021). These chamber scores by D’Ambrosio are therefore sound arabesques, built on sound alchemies and rhythmic pulsations, on popular or oriental scales that smell of an ancient Mediterranean, a tribute to his own land, to the harsh Murgian and rocky landscapes but also to the colours of the sea and the sky, but they are, above all, memory games conducted with a compositional skill worthy of a great composer of our time." - Dinko Fabris, musicologist |

‘A testimony to the artist I am today’ |
"It took me about twenty years before deciding to record my first solo album. This project was always going around in my head, but I never felt ready for it: too many question marks, which program, good enough, what kind of interpretation and so on... In the end I decided to record some of the “classics” from the trumpet repertoire and give them my today’s personal interpretation. Special thanks to my partners in crime, outstanding musicians, and inspirations, Jeroen Bal and Femke IJlstra. Also, many thanks to Rob Goorhuis for accepting my invitation to compose an original piece. His canzoni went beyond my expectations." - Omar Tomasoni |
