Our Eco-toilets are now in use!
A balmy May 26th evening saw a large band of our volunteers, trustees and supporters celebrate the opening of our newly installed eco-toilets.

Formally unveiled by Tithe Barn Trust stalwarts Robert Stripe & Ray Gambell, the installation of these facilities is a huge step forward towards the Trust's goal of making Landbeach tithe barn an asset valued by the local community. We were entertained by a humourous and spirited account from Selwyn Richardson of Swavesey allotments recounting their experiences with an eco-toilet - fortunately all postive! The Trust owes a huge debt of gratitude to both Robert and Ray as representatives of the Landbeach Society, which has done so much in the past looking after the Barn and the village heritage.
This opening was the highlight of this year's well-attended AGM. Around 30 people attended the event which was held in the barn itself. After a resume of the past year's acheivements from our Interim Chair Carolin Göhler and the approval of the report and accounts, the assembly was treated to an entertaining talk by our very own signwriter, James Kilby. James is a hobby artist who, in addition to producing wonderful signboards for the Trust, works with a wide range of artefacts, taking commissions for decoration on objects as diverse as helmets and motorcycle fuel tanks as well as professionally being a successful tattoo artist.
Carolin thanked all those supporters who contributed so generously to the Spend a Penny campaign and also thanked the Postcode Community Trust whose substantial award, along with supporter donations, made the purchase and installation of the Eco-toilets possible. The Postcode Community Trust is a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
The 'Scottish Play' comes to Landbeach!
Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts in full swing
Dark omens were seen and fates sealed in Landbeach tithe barn on June 16th when the popular and talented Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts (CSVPA) returned to entertain us with another fabulous abridged Shakespeare performance, staged on what was a quintessentially perfect English summer's evening. Three members of CSVPA (along with some young and very willing volunteers drawn from an audience of over 90) provided an hour of top quality entertainment to general acclaim.

Burwell History Society visit
Robert and Ray entertaining members of the Burwell History Society
A lovely English summer's afternoon on June 15th saw the Tithe Barn Trust welcome members of The Burwell History Society keen to see and hear about the idyllic Grade II Landbeach Tithe Barn. The guests were quite entranced by what they saw and heard as Trustee Robert Stripe explained its history, use and how it may have come to be built using the materials from some distance away.

Despite a reluctance to leave, after about an hour the group moved on to visit the Grade I Listed Parish Church, just to the back of the Barn. The former direct link between the two buildings has gone but it was just a short trip around the central part of the Village to get there, where a further hour was spent in the company of Tithe Barn Trust Committee Member and Church Warden Dr Ray Gambell who regaled the same Members about the history of that building and the history of the village as a whole ... this time all over a cream tea!

Until 1975 Parish Churches were inextricably linked with their tithe barns, so this afternoon was no exception in linking the two buildings in the way we did.

Volunteer and supplier focus
In an occasional series, we want to showcase the great work of some of the many volunteers and craftspeople that help ensure that the barn well is looked-after and accessible for all.

This month we are highlighting the work of our tireless trustee and Interim Chair Carolin Göhler.

Tithe Barn Trust trustee Carolin has taken on the interim chairmanship position whilst we are looking for the right person to take the reigns of the Tithe Barn Trust. A qualified Horticulturist and a Chartered Landscape Architect throughout her career Carolin has been working for the public, private and third sectors as well as acting as a freelance landscape consultant for many decades. Many people might know her as the former CEO of CambridgePPF (Cambridge’s largest civic society), however she has been involved with the Trust for over 8 years and worked as a team member not only to improve the outdoor landscape. As an active supporter she can be found leading the 'outdoor gym' activities (often with her little dog Fleur in tow) managing vegetation and landscape features, or wielding a flail to demonstrate the way grain woiuld have been threshed on the floor in the barn in former times.
