Principal Update
Today was a very special Mass for our school.
  • Our entire eighth-grade class was present with us for their last all-school Mass at SJB. We recognized and thanked the students for their many years with us and this special year of leadership and preparation for the future. We hope to see them on Sunday for years to come!
  • After Mass, we held a special recognition ceremony for all of the special ways that students participate at SJB. We recognized our athletes, scouts, musicians, and altar servers. We also thanked our teachers for their tireless work this school year.
  • We presented the "Light of Christ Award" to one student from each homeroom at the conclusion of the ceremony. This award recognizes students who love our Lord in a special way and strive to live virtuous lives. (Pictured Below)
We are reminded that the central purpose of our school is to form students to follow Christ's example and to spread His Light throughout the world. We can only do this in collaboration with our parents. Thank you for your support and follow-through of the Catholic way of life and high academic standards at home. May each of us continue to strive to be people of the light.

Information and Updates

School Safety

We turn our prayers and hearts to the community in Texas suffering from the school shooting yesterday.

At school today, our Kindergarten through third-grade teachers did not bring up the topic in the classrooms. Teachers were advised to acknowledge it briefly if it came up, but to allow parents to discuss this sensitive topic at home. In our fourth through eighth-grade classrooms, teachers discussed the topic as it came up - dialog acknowledged the currently known facts and focused on praying for others and the safety of our community.

Here is a tool to guide any discussions you may choose to have at home: LINK

Some inquiries came into the school office today about our preparedness for emergency situations. Our school has strong plans in place to prevent something from occurring and to respond to it should something happen. Here is a brief summary of what is in place at St. John the Baptist School.
  • We hold annual safety evaluations and police walk-throughs.
  • Local police have copies of our keys, school maps, safety plans, and live remote access to our security cameras.
  • Our school staff is trained in the ALICE active shooter response system.
  • In addition to drills required by the state, we hold monthly "if-then" scenario drills with students.
  • Each classroom has an easy-to-use door barricade. Exterior doors have safety film on the glass.
  • Cameras cover every hallway and main entry point in the building.
  • All school doors are locked during the school day.
Anyone with concerns or questions is invited to reach out directly to Mr. Mulloy. We also wish to share that we had a fire alarm get accidentally pulled by a preschooler today; our apologies for the sensitive timing of this evacuation.
