Veterinary Extern Opportunity!
King Street Pet Hospital

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all have some things in common: an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.

Students will work closely with the supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences at King Street Pet Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

DVM students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view list of stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.

Teach for America's Ignite Fellowship

Applications Now Open!

Unequal access to opportunity existed long before the pandemic, but these past few years have been especially hard for our most vulnerable kids. The pandemic has disproportionately affected low-income communities and communities of color. We see this moment as an opportunity to start building the education system we’ve been fighting for over the last 30 years: one that allows every child to learn, lead, thrive, and co-create a future filled with possibility. The Ignite fellowship offers personalized learning opportunities with students to move towards that goal.

As an Ignite Fellow, you will lead small group virtual learning experiences with students with the support of veteran educators. This is a part-time, paid opportunity to build meaningful relationships with youth, accelerate student success and gain skills that propel forward your own leadership. Fellows receive a $1200 (pre-tax) award at the conclusion of their fellowship term.

  • Fall Fellowship Dates: September 26 - December 16, 2022, approximately 5 hours per week working virtually during K-12 school hours
  • Application Deadline: Monday, June 6 by 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time.
