Over our first year much of our focus has been on providing important news and helping you understand why it matters, as a public service.
Along the way you’ve told us how much you want opportunities to communicate healthily and constructively with each other, us and people in power. We see this need as critically important to our mission because it deepens our interdependence with you — one of the keys to sustainable non-profit journalism (and something you understand well as one of our members).
That’s why we’re planning to launch a members-only Discord channel - a dedicated safe space for our donors to engage in conversation about the information we share, what you’re still trying to understand, and how we can work together to utilize it to make powerful change in our shared community.
It’s an exciting vision but to make it happen we’re definitely going to need your help. We’ve considered a lot of ways to facilitate more Scout community conversations, but website and social media comments come with serious limitations that don’t meet our community needs.
This week, we’re launching a fundraising campaign to make the Discord Channel possible. Since we’re committed to making this a safe space, we need to be able to dedicate staffing time and resources to moderate the channel.
