Enjoying an Escape Room adventure!
Dear Friends and Family,

First many thanks for your prayers for the National Youth Leaders' Conference in March. The event was hugely encouraging and a pleasure to be involved with. For more info read page 6 of the AcornNews

Sabbatical begins

After 20 years of heading up the work of Acorn and nearly 10 years in a paid post we are delighted to have a 3 month sabbatical (May-July) to rest, read and reflect.

A number of books we're reading and are being challenged by
We have been challenged by the topic of rest, and learning how to say "No" and how to set better boundaries in our lives. We realise that we have lots we need to learn in this area if we are to continue our work with joy and without burning out.

The sabbatical didn't quite start as planned as we had Misha, Alina and Artem - a Ukrainian family from Kharkiv with us. They arrived 28th March for what we thought would be 4-5 days, and finally travelled onto Canada on 11th May. It was a real pleasure to have them as part of our family for 6 weeks, and very strange to return to a quiet - or quieter!! house.
Also sadly Andy had a football injury which has caused some distress, and he is still not able to do sports - something he was very much looking forward to during the Sabbatical. However we are sure that God's timing and plans are perfect and we are now packing for the UK!

Alina's family staying for 2 days before flying to Canada                             Andy's ribs not broken, but a few out of place!

Praise God for ...
  • Sabbatical opportunity. We realise that not everyone gets this chance. We are grateful to the Acorn trustees that they recognise the value of stopping, resting, recharging and reflecting on how we live, and what it means to prioritise and live an unhurried life.
  • New school for Emily - Her current headteacher is leaving, together with a good number of teachers and students, including Emily's best friend, Regi. It has been quite stressful to decide with Emily what to do, but we praise God that He has helped Emily during 2 trial days at David and Réka's school to see if she wanted to move. Yesterday the school gave her a place.
  • Zsófi completing her Dynamics of Biblical Change course. This course has been challenging and life changing for Zsófi as she has learned about how people change. Concretely this has helped her learn more about how to deal with her anxiety and other issues.
  • Andy's parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. We are delighted to be joining the whole family for a weekend of celebrations.
Please pray for ...
  • Good family time whilst we are on sabbatical. We have lots of plans to do things together, but need God's help if we are to get closer together as a family.
  • A fresh focus on work when we return.
  • Enough students to apply for the Acorn Bible Training, and that the team would be okay whilst Andy is not around.
  • Wisdom as our church prays about planting another church potentially in our town - and what that could mean for us.
Praise God for a wonderful weekend away with a great youth group - truly a blessing!

Thank you for all your love and ongoing support!
With lots of love,
Andy, Zsófi, David, Réka, Emily
