The Week So Far
Good afternoon to all our boarding families. Monday evening staff member Richard led a small but dedicated group in HIIT work in the gym. On Tuesday, renowned NZ graffiti artist Nick Tam was back in working with a group of ten keen boarders, as they embark on learning the art of graffiti spray painting and stenciling.
On Wednesday, Cushla our visiting Yoga instructor worked with a decent size group of boys, focusing on breathing techniques and full body stretching. This was an excellent session and the boys worked extremely well. Thursday evening was set to be the inter tribe basketball final and boys versus staff game, but this will have to be moved until next week as the gym is being set up for Feast Day Mass tonight. Donohue tribe will take on Bourke to decide the overall winners.
Over the past 2 weeks our Year 9 boys have been busy practicing and perfecting their house haka’s, ready for the Feast Day haka competition. There is a great deal of pride and passion on display, mixed with some nerves, as the boys are eagerly waiting to perform on Friday. On Wednesday night it was wonderful to have the Year 9 boarders all perform the College haka on the PAC stage, led by Year 10 Boarder Tihema Humm (last year’s winning haka leader). The video of this passionate, stirring performance will appear on our boarding Facebook for parents to view. It was brilliant to have the boys all performing as a distinct boarding group, as they are divided up into five different houses in School.
Also, on our boarding Facebook page will be 2 more staff videos, introducing 2 more of our new staff members for 2022. This week we have short videos from Mike Smith and Sam Van Hout (an old boy) Both staff members are live in, Residential assistants/supervisors. Both are really enjoying working alongside the boys.
It looks like another wintry and lively weekend ahead, with lots of our boys playing a range of college sports. We hope all of our boys enjoy their games, and that whanau have a safe and enjoyable weekend. Best Wishes Dai and the boarding team.
