In a recent meeting, the Chaplaincy Ministry Advisory Council (CMAC) selected three new members and thanked two outgoing members. The CMAC assists the staff of Chaplaincy and Care Ministry in the promotion of chaplaincy and related ministries, explores opportunities and trends, and assists in the interview and evaluation of prospective chaplains. Chaplaincy and Care Ministry Virtual Town Hall Meeting, June 22, 2022

As Synod 2022 approaches, please continue to pray for the denomination and the delegates who have before them a weighty agenda which includes the Human Sexuality Report (HSR) and the Structure and Leadership Task Force Report (SALT). We will be sending out a Zoom invite early next month for a virtual gathering on June 22 to reflect and discuss the decisions of Synod 2022.

Annual Chaplains Training, September 22-24, 2022

Join us for our annual training in September. Our speaker, Dr. Danjuma Gibson, will share spiritual care and self-care concepts and strategies for navigating "brave space," which is a healing environment related to rebuilding from all that chaplains have encountered on a personal, communal, and global level. Go to our website for more information.

Peter Hofman

Peter was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the Army. He is currently assigned to the Task Force Sinai. Congratulations LTC Hofman and thank you for your 15+ years of military service.

Sarah Hoogendoorn

Sarah is a Board Certified Chaplain with a specialty certification in Mental Health (MH) by the National Association of Veteran Affairs Chaplains. She is currently completing her DMin and working full time at the St Cloud, VA Medical Center.

Raidel Leon Martinez

Raidel serves as an active duty Air Force chaplain. While being stationed overseas, he recently became board certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains.

Don recently accepted a new position at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI. This is a wonderful opportunity for him to move closer to family and begin a DMin program at Calvin Theological Seminary.

JoAnn Swart

JoAnn is retiring this May after serving Marketplace Chaplains for 15 years. We celebrate this amazing milestone and her trailblazing ministry. She served Gordon Food Service as their chaplain for her entire chaplain ministry in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Tom Walcott

Tom retired in April from his post as Chaplain of the Coast Guard. We are thankful for his leadership and ministry to Coast Guard members during his more than 28 years of selfless service in the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps.

An advisory panel report to Canada’s Minister of National Defence recommends changes to chaplaincy in the Canadian Armed Forces. A Cardus review says those changes would be discriminatory.

Chaplains Gather for Retirement Ceremony

On April 21, the Navy held a retirement ceremony for Tom Walcott as fellow chaplains looked on. During his tenure, Chaplain Walcott significantly grew the Chaplain support ministry, adding 7 new Navy chaplains and dozens of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

John VanRegenmorter

John passed away on February 1, 2022. After serving a variety of churches, John served for 15 years as chaplain and director of Stepping Stones, a ministry for infertile couples at Bethany Christian Services in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

John de Vries, Jr.

John passed away April 11, 2022 in London, Ontario. He served in multi-faith chaplaincy for almost 40 years. He was passionate about running, providing spiritual care to all, and restorative justice.
