EDF FAM Tour
On May 11-12 the Cleveland - Bolivar Economic Development Foundation hosted a familiarization tour of Bolivar County. Participants of this event were introduced to Bolivar County manufacturing employers, industrial property, and the Port of Rosedale. The goal of this event was to bring awareness and highlight success stories around industrial development in the county.

Guests from the following agencies/organizations attended:
  • Entergy
  • Cooperative Energy
  • Congressman Thompson's office
  • Senator Wicker's office
  • Senator Hyde-Smith's office
  • Accelerate Mississippi
  • Mississippi Development Authority
  • Mississippi Department of Transportation

Participants were given a tour of Quality Steel Corporation where local leadership was able to share about their history and recent growth in the community. Next on the tour was the Cleveland Industrial Park and where updates were given on grants received and local funds being spent to make improvements to the industrial park. A tour of the Rosedale Industrial Park was given where the need for rail to the port and the industrial park was discussed. Participants enjoyed a boat ride to view the Port of Rosedale and discussed operational needs to support the Port. A dinner was held with local employers and guests in attendance.

The following morning, Lara Bowman gave a presentation to the group sharing more about the community, local employers and laying out the next steps for the Economic Development Foundation. The economic development efforts of the remainder of the year are the following:
  • website/marketing improvements
  • exploration of manufacturing center and continued improvements to industrial product offerings
  • building relationships locally, regionally, and federally
  • target industry analysis to drill down to areas where we can grow
  • workforce analysis to address needs
This event was sponsored by Entergy and Cooperative Energy.

Downtown Cleveland was abuzz with activity in May! From dance recitals to graduations, festivals to ball tournaments, everyone seemed to be in and out of shops, hotels, and restaurants downtown as milder spring melted into the first heated waves of summer. Downtown is excited to welcome the Cleveland Farmer’s Market back to the greenway for their kick-off event on Saturday, June 4, as well as some of the final passengers on the American Queen riverboats before they take their summer docking break. Ball tournaments will pick up in June, as well as fun summer camps throughout the community. We hope that you’ll reference the community calendar to enjoy some of these upcoming summer activities, or tune into Majic 107.5 every Tuesday at 7:35am to hear updates on community events from Chamber personnel!
Facade Grant Program

Team Cleveland Main Street is excited to announce the 2022 round of facade grant applications for downtown Cleveland!  Due to price increases in supplies and labor, Team Cleveland has doubled the award amount of facade grants from $500 to $1,000, but will retain the 1:1 dollar-for-dollar match award structure.

To apply for the award, you must be a current Team Cleveland Main Street member in good standing with a storefront located in the Crosstie Historic District (please see the linked map to determine if your storefront is located within the historic district boundaries). All proposed changes must adhere to the updated 2021 Crosstie Historic District Guidelines. All changes must be approved by the City of Cleveland Heritage Commission.

Please note that most changes to historic facades require approval from the Heritage Commission, which requires the submission of a Certificate of Appropriateness to the Commission members. To limit the amount of paperwork in the granting process, please note a copy of the certificate of appropriateness can be substituted in place of the Team Cleveland Grant application once approved by the Heritage Commission. To request a copy of the grant application, call the Team Cleveland offices at 662-441-1659.

Pour Mississippi

On Saturday, May 14, downtown Cleveland welcomed hundreds of people to the Pour Mississippi Beer and Music Festival. Featuring nearly 20 breweries and hosted by Keep Cleveland Boring, this event included live music, food trucks, cornhole, and follow-up bands in different downtown businesses to keep the weekend active.

Young Professionals Host Gardening Event

On Tuesday, May 24, the Cleveland-Bolivar County Young Professionals met with representatives at the Mississippi State University Extension Service for a gardening workshop focusing on growing microgreens and best practices for container gardening. Learning basic concepts such as the “thriller, filler, and spiller” inclusion for containers, the Young Pros were able to plant their own miniature greens gardens and take home small terracotta and sub-irrigation potted plants to tend to in their own homes.
