Dear Holy Cross Families,

This morning, I went outside to spend a bit of time with first graders during their drizzly morning recess.  One student excitedly pointed out a bird’s nest that she had discovered near the flagpole and then ran off to play tag with her friends.  As I watched her delight in her discovery and in her friendships, I couldn’t help but reflect on the fact that the flagpole we were standing next to has a flag at half mast after yesterday’s tragedy at Robb elementary school in Texas.  Our teachers came to school with heavy hearts this morning and many parents called or wrote, needing reassurance.  I noticed extra hugs and kisses at drop-off and know that many classrooms have said extra prayers today as well.  As we try to process the tragic news from yesterday and ask ourselves, “What can we do?,” many of us here at school have realized that one of the best answers is to simply continue doing what we are already doing - leaning on our faith, fully knowing and believing that God is a God of love and that we are a school community built on that love.  We will continue to always start with and return to Love as we continue to process this news together, trusting that God alone will bring “peace that surpasses all understanding.” (Phillipians 4:16)

Teachers will also meet after school today to process the types of questions and comments that might have surfaced from students of various age groups throughout the day.  We will discuss possible school-wide responses to this tragedy as well.  Please know of our prayers for you as you have difficult conversations with your children and please know that we are available if you would like to process this news with anyone in the school community.

Queridas familias,

This week I’m inviting you to consider nominations for our school board. Over the years we have been blessed with a rich mixture of parents, parishioners, educators and community leaders serving on the board. In the past couple of years, and again this year, members have rotated off the board when their terms have expired. We have added some new members, and again this year need to replenish the board with new members who can commit to a four-year term on the school board.
We are looking for nominations of parents, parishioners, educators and community leaders who can make a positive contribution to the board and the well-being of our school community. We are also looking for individuals who will help our board to more fully reflect the ethnic diversity of our school community… Please see the (parish Sunday) bulletin announcement for the purpose of the school board and the responsibilities of a board member. The announcement has instructions concerning how you can nominate yourself or another person for the board. Please bring this to prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to guide your discernment concerning who would serve well on our school board…

Pulled Pork for Parking Lot Potholes!
All parishioners are invited and encouraged to attend a fundraiser dinner on Saturday, June 11th, beginning at 5:00 pm (after the 4 pm Mass), sponsored by our Knights of Columbus, to raise funds toward repair, resurfacing and relining our parking lots.  With the $10,000 grant from the diocesan Parish in Need Fund, we need to raise an additional $24,000 for this project through various fundraising efforts.
The cost of the dinner is $5 per person and $20 per immediate family.  The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans and potato salad.  Weather permitting, tables will be set up for the dinner on the parking lot behind the church, which seems appropriate for this fundraiser!  If too hot or rainy, it will be held in the gym.  We will have food for 300 people, so please plan on attending. Can't attend? Donations are welcome!
Parents of 7th and 8th graders, ask your students about the opportunity to get FREE COLLEGE through the 21st Century Scholars program. Learn more here!
Memorial Day Parade has been canceled this year! We hope to join them next year!
