CFUW Resolutions: Proposers & Amenders Workshop
May 30, 4-6pm ET
This workshop gives proposers of the six resolutions for 2022 an opportunity to interact with Clubs especially those who have sent them amendments, suggestions and comments relating to  the resolutions. Prior to the workshop, proposers will have contacted each of those Clubs to explain why they could or could not accommodate the requested changes. Clubs whose proposed amendments do not appear in the revised wording and who still wish to bring their proposals forward may do so at the workshop. No new amendments may be submitted at the workshop as that deadline was April 19th.

Proposers and the Resolutions Committee appreciate the response that has come from Clubs to the opportunity to submit amendments. The committee realizes the intense effort that proposers have made to revise their resolutions to accommodate those proposed amendments that would improve without compromising the intent of their resolution.

Advocacy resolutions that have been passed at previous CFUW AGMs, or recently at a CFUW Policy Session, have become CFUW policy on which we can advocate to various levels of government. This workshop is part of the grassroots democratic process as we refine the resolutions that will be presented for a vote at the August Policy Session.

GWI Triennial Delegation 2022 - Call for CFUW Delegates
In preparation for the upcoming GWI Triennial General Assembly, CFUW is pleased to call for delegates to participate in this event. CFUW’s entitlement to voting delegates is determined by GWI. Two voting positions are occupied by the CFUW President and the VP International Relations; other members of the delegation will be selected from CFUW members serving on GWI committees and individuals from the general membership of GWI supporting clubs. Delegates will be nominated by the CFUW President and VP International Relations and to the extent possible, reflect the diversity of CFUW members supporting GWI. The delegate slate is approved by the CFUW Board.
CFUW Southport launches "Grandma asked me to VOTE" campaign
This past Saturday, CFUW Southport members dressed like suffragettes and handed out cards Saturday in Southampton, encouraging people to vote in the June 2 provincial election as part of their "Grandma asked me to vote" campaign.

As a non-partisan group, the women were not endorsing any one candidate or political party. Armed with banners, the women handed out cards saying, “the daughters and granddaughters of suffragettes are asking their children and grandchildren to vote.”

“The response was great,” said participant Frances Barrick. “Motorists honked their horns and pedestrians stopped to chat.” Women fought to get the vote and men and women fought in wars to protect our freedoms, Barrick said. “The least we can do is to vote in honour of the lives lost to keep our democracies, a battle currently going on in Ukraine.”

The suffragettes plan to campaign again in the fall for the municipal election in October.

Environmental Discrimination: A Global Problem - May 27, 10am ET
CFUW Edmonton, UWC Vancouver, & GWI Peer-to-Peer Conversation
Two Canadian Clubs, CFUW Edmonton and The University Women’s Club of Vancouver invite: Graduate Women International (GWI) members from around the world to take part in a Peer-to-Peer Conversation about Environmental Discrimination on Friday, May 27 from 10am-12pm ET. Environmental discrimination occurs when development, policies, or practices result in more pollution and health risks in specific communities. Whether it is a village, a people, a country, or a global region experiencing these increased hazards the causes of environmental discrimination are similar across the world. However, solutions are available to assess, decrease, and prevent this discrimination in historically and newly affected communities. Click here to view or download the event flier.
