A Word from Pastor Dave

And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. - Luke 15:5-7

Three times in this short section, Jesus talks about joy. Two times he refers to the joy of the shepherd. One time he reveals the story of the lost sheep is to point to the rejoicing of the True Shepherd who rejoices every time a sinner repents.

The words joy, joyful, and rejoice occur in the Bible over 400 times. That is a lot! Joy and rejoicing should be a central mark of the people of God. Why? Because we have so much to rejoice for no matter what the circumstances are. We have joy because our sins are completely forgiven. We rejoice because our names are written in the book of life. We are joyful because the living God indwells us through His Holy Spirit. We look forward with joy to Christ's second return.

Will you spend some time this week obeying God's command to be joyful always?
Yes, it's okay to be a joyful Christian!

Please pray for the family members of the 21 victims who died in this week's school shooting, along with the family members of the 10 victims of the Buffalo shooting. Let's pray for God's protection over the children of our nation. And let's lament over the grieving that so many families are going through.

“Throughout his account, Mark unveils a Jesus of unparalleled power and authority but also a Jesus of humility and love. And while this Jesus invites each of us into a greater story through His teachings, He demands we come as active participants. We must acknowledge Him, seek salvation in Him, and follow Him wherever He leads.
"In The Gospel of Mark, you'll follow Jesus through His days of early ministry to the cross and discover what it means to be the recipients of His overflowing compassion and the very reason for His all-consuming passion.”
We would love for you to join us as we take this journey through the pages of the gospel of Mark. We will meet at the Landers on Tuesdays at 10am and 6pm beginning June 7th. Please sign up at the Welcome Desk or HERE.
