Message from the Social Worker
It has been such a joy getting to know so many students this year. As a reflection activity to notice how we have grown and changed, most of the students I work with completed these phrases: “I used to…  Now I…” Their answers were not only cute, but also good reminders of all the different ways young children are growing. School is not just about learning academic skills like reading, writing, and math; students are also learning how to manage their own emotions, get along with others, and persevere through difficulty. Check out some of their reflections below:

“I used to make all sorts of mistakes; now I think before I act.”

“I used to cry a lot. Now I am brave.”

“I used to have trouble paying attention. Now I focus.”

“I used to throw a fit. Now I take a deep breath and calm down.”

Louisiana Parentline

Louisiana Parentline gives parents a safe space to express their frustrations, ask parenting questions and get support. Specialists can offer emotional support, de-escalation, crisis intervention, information and referral, and plans for coping. Follow up calls can also be offered to parents to increase their circle of support

You can reach Louisiana Parentline 24/7 by dialing 833-LA-CHILD or by texting 225-424-1533.
