FRIDAY 17th June 2022                                                              VOL. 2022.07
A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hi Everyone,

Season 2022 has definitely started with a bang here at the Tiger's Lair.  Thank you to our Events & Fundraising sub-committee along with our sponsors who put in great efforts to host our first five successful rounds.

Round 1 - ANZAC Day Commemoration (Kalamunda RSL)
Round 2 - Mothers Day (Hills Botanic)
Round 3 - Umpire Appreciation (OPSM)
Round 4 - Super Hero & Fundraiser for Kids Cancer Project
Round 5 - Toyota Raffle (Kalamunda Toyota)
Year 5's got to play at halftime at Optus - Eagles vs Melbourne
Round 6 - Return to footy after the WA Day long weekend and competition regrading

Overall this season, we have had more positive feedback than negative with regards to our players and supporters, so well done everyone keep up the good work.  Always encourage good play, good sports and respect the umpire's decision.  Please continue to be mindful of throw away comments on the sidelines.  Little ears can hear clearly across the field and be damaging to confidence and feelings.

Renovations have been completed with the Umpires, Disability Access Toilet, First Aid Room and all 4 change rooms finished, with just our store rooms awaiting some final fittings before we can move in.  This means that we will commence the relocation of the remainder of our equipment from the City's depot sheds back to Kostera in the coming weeks.  We look forward to any offers of help to do this on the weekend of 02.07.22.

Congratulations to the following players achieving milestones to date.  We are proud of you and your commitment to your football.

  • Mitchell Chaplyn (Year 6 Gold) - 50 game
  • Armin Steuart (Year 7) - 50 games
  • Cohen Standing (Year 7) - 50 games
  • Jack Farrow (Year 7) - 50 games
  • Zeke Leather (Year 7) - 50 games
  • Cooper Hodgkinson (Year 7) - 50 games
  • Conor Thompson (Year 7) - 50 games
  • Oliver Rushton (Year 7) - 50 games
  • Blake Smith (Year 7) - 50 games
  • Charlie Grierson (Year 7) - 50 games (tonight)
  • Jamie Sidebottom (Year 10) - 100 games

The committee has been proactive in the arrangement of providing free or subsided training for umpiring, first aid and coaching.  We were pleased by the large attendance at all events.  Our youth players too, have stepped up and are providing a much-needed hand volunteering around the club.  Well done to you all for putting your hand up and giving back to your club.  Please acknowledge these special young men and women for helping out at Auskick, setting/packing up equipment, cooking, cleaning, serving in the canteen, rubbish bins/containers for change and helping with events.  This is what belonging to a club is all about.

We are still looking for a Canteen Manager to run our canteen and take over the reins in the kitchen from our dedicated committee who have for the past five rounds covered purchasing, deliveries, opening/closing and cooking.
Thank you to all teams for ensuring we have volunteers each game to help out in the kitchen.  Most of you are finding it's not as bad as you thought.  We look forward to holding some fundraiser meal nights such as beef n gravy rolls, soup night, burger nights etc after training as the season progresses.

So what's next?

  • Auskick PP and Y1 Gala Day this Sunday at Guildford Grammar
  • Heritage Round and 70th Anniversary: 5th to 7th August
  • Telethon Round (WAFC) : 24th - 26th June
  • Team Photos
  • Auskick Movie Day
  • NAIDOC Round : 15 to 17th July
  • Parents Social Event : Date TBC

Our Events/Fundraising Sub-Committee are always looking for helpers.  So instead of dropping and running at training during the week, pop your head into the club rooms and lend a hand, have a coffee and give back.

The next General Meeting is scheduled for:  Monday 4th July, 6pm.

Regards, Suellen.

Team Update - Year 5 Black
The sun was shining as Year 5 Black kicked off the season against Darlington at Kostera. The boys put in an awesome effort, playing strongly and competitively throughout the match.  A great display of teamwork and ball movement.  We welcomed Jackson and Toby not only to the Tiger family but also to the sport. The boys have slotted in well and contributed to great team performance. Koby bagged two goals in his first game, well done Koby!

Round Two saw a little bit of a reality check for the boys against Caversham Blue. Both teams played in good spirit but our boys had difficulty maintaining possession of the ball and playing on the larger size oval. Fundamental skills were the focus of training the following week.

The boys bounced back into action in Round Three against Caversham Orange and played a much-improved style of footy, quick ball movement and teamwork were back on display.  Nathan from OPSM Kalamunda (and a parent in our team) was not only our Round 3 club sponsor Community Umpire round, but he also volunteered his time to umpire our game -  thanks Nathan, we appreciate your many ways of contributing to our club!

The weekend wasn't over for our year 5 boys as they were given the opportunity to play at halftime at Optus. The lucky players that were selected were able to demonstrate their skills on the big stage. Depending on your allegiance it could be said that the Kala Tigers halftime performance was potentially more entertaining than the entire West Coast v Melbourne game.

Well done to all players, families and volunteers on a great start to season 2022.
Go Tigers!!

The WA Football Volunteer of the Year awards are a great way to recognise the contribution our volunteers make around our great club.  From our coaches, managers, committee members to the parents that go above and beyond each week to ensure the game of junior footy is played.

The dedication and passion of our volunteers, both new and old ensure our kids have every opportunity to have fun, learn a new sport, improve on a skill every season.  If you are new, find out who some of your club’s hidden gems are.  Share their journey, their length of service, the various roles they may have undertaken and how they are valued in your club community. We would love to hear their story.
