8th Grade Dance
Hey Class of 2022 Parents, it’s time for the 8th grade dance!!!
Drop your 8th grader off at the JAMS Performing Arts Courtyard on Friday, June 3rd from 5pm -7:30pm.
There will be a DJ, Photo Booth, activities, food, and door prizes.
Students can come as they are or dress to impress!
Have your 8th grader fill out the dance Top 20 Google Form to see if their favorite song(s) make the DJ's playlist: https://tinyurl.com/jams8thgradedancetop20

Do you like to use social media, but also sometimes find it stressful? This is the first webinar in the CARES About Anxiety Series presented by the CARES Youth Collective. This webinar is directed at teens and college students, and will also provide advice to parents and educators. It will explore the benefits and drawbacks of social media use and will present practical strategies of how to support oneself when being on social media causes negative emotions, such as anxiety or disconnection.

Library Due Date
All books (library books and textbooks) are due to the library by May 27th. Students can check their school email for overdue library book notices or stop by the library to see what materials they need to return.
Mental Health Awareness Month Activity
Friday, May 27th, 4 to 9 pm PT -- Outdoor Screening of Disney Pixar’s “Inside Out” at Virginia Ave Park -- Family workshop on NAMI children’s mental health coloring and activity book, Meet Little Monster, and resource booth at the outdoor screening of Disney Pixar’s “Inside Out” at Virginia Avenue Park in Santa Monica.
Summer Science Camps at JAMS
Summer Science Camp registration is open for incoming 6-8th JAMS Students. All information is on the JAMS webpage at https://jamssciencemagnet.org/summer-science-camp
Camps are open to ALL incoming JAMS 6-8th graders as long as space is available. Please contact your current science teacher for more information. Incoming 6th grade parents can email tlevin@smmusd.org with questions.
We're also looking for parent volunteers to help with lunch.
PACIFIC BLUE MUSIC CAMP (August 1-5, 2022)!
Announcing the 24th Annual Pacific Blue Music Camp! After a two-summer hiatus, we are back!!! This popular music day camp welcomes middle school instrumental music students to “jump start” the 2022-23 school year with great music-making and fun! In addition, Pacific Blue is an ideal transitional activity for rising 6th grade musicians to “preview” an authentic middle school band and orchestra environment.
Pacific Blue will take place at John Adams Middle School from Monday, Aug. 1 – Friday, Aug. 5, 2022 from9:00am – 12:00pm. Optional enrichment sessions will be offered from 1:00 – 3:00pm.

Attendance & what to do if your child is absent or leaving early:
ABSENCES
All absences and tardies must be excused by parents or guardians. Parents may report absences via the JAMS website (click on the "Find It Fast" button at the top right and then select "Report an Absence"; or click here) or by leaving a detailed phone message at 310-452-2326 x72201. Please be sure to provide your child's name, ID number or birthdate, date of absences and a detailed reason for the absence.
LEAVING EARLY
Please let us know first thing in the morning if your child will be leaving school early. You may either fill out the online "Report an Absence" form or write a note and have your child deliver it to the Attendance Office before the start of school. The note should contain your child's name, the date/time they will be leaving school early, the reason for leaving early and a phone number where the parent can be reached for verification. If your child is leaving early on a Tuesday, please allow an additional 10 minutes for them to complete their Covid testing before leaving campus.
Absences that are not cleared within 72 hours will be recorded as truant. For more information on attendance policies, please visit the JAMS website or refer to SMMUSD's Attendance FAQ page.
