For the second week in a row, our Bible passage from Acts contains a vision from God that impacts the direction of the church. In the 16th chapter of Acts, Paul sees a vision of a man who calls out to him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!”

Perhaps the first-century church experienced more dreams and visions and communication from God than we do in our more scientific age.  Maybe that isn’t necessarily progress.  Perhaps we’ve lost something by not being more in tune with the voice of God.

At any rate, Paul responds immediately to the vision, and the impact is remarkable.  What would it take for us to be more open to the call of God?  How could we be prepared to respond without hesitation when we discern that God’s Spirit is leading us?

A Word From Our Youth Director

“So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus.” (Matthew 14:29b)

This week, our youth concluded our series on the “Renegade Gospel,” in which we looked at the variety of ways that the message of Jesus is counter-cultural in today’s society.  It is a message that calls us to put our faith into action to meet the needs of others – even if we have to make sacrifices in our own lives.  It is a call to radical forgiveness and to love our enemies.

It is a call to leave our comfort zones and live into God’s call on our lives.  So as we finished our time with the renegade gospel, we found ourselves stepping out of the boat with Peter onto the raging sea where Jesus calls us to put our faith in him and leave behind our fears and our doubts.

I wonder, what is God calling you to?  How might it require you to step out of your own comfort zone?  What risks will you face if you step out of the boat?  Sometimes we place so much of our focus on the risks of what God is calling us to do, but what if we stepped out of the boat and actually walked on water?  This week, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and live into whatever God is calling you to.  In doing so, you will be a renegade living out your faith in the world, but the view from on top of the raging sea is worth it.

Thanks,

Bryce Fuhrmann
Youth Director

Ready to cook up some fun? Food Truck Party VBS invites children from 3 years old (potty trained) to incoming 5th grade to get on a roll with God as a parade of food trucks rolls into our neighborhood for the summer's biggest party! Here, kids (or "chefs") will learn from the food truck's top chefs, along with DJ Cupcake, about the daily specials, which are lines from the well-loved prayer that teaches us to turn to God to meet our needs.

Registration is now open! Cost is $10 ($11 if you pay online) and this includes a week of fun and a t-shirt! If you are a volunteer or would like to volunteer, you and your children can come for free! I am still looking for some volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know.

See you soon!

Global Methodist Church Denomination Launches

A new Methodist denomination launched on May 1 as a conservative group of clergy, laity, and congregations within the United Methodist Church announced the formation of the Global Methodist Church (GMC).

The Global Methodist Church is a new evangelical denomination born out of the work of traditional-leaning church leaders. It comes three years following the Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace through Separation agreement between traditional, progressive and centrist groups that provided a compromise around the inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons in the UM church while allowing for traditional-leaning congregations and pastors to leave the UMC with their church property and assets.

Due to Covid, the 2020 General Conference was never held and the Protocol was never adopted.  Because General Conference has now been postponed to 2024, a group of conservative United Methodists known as the Wesleyan Covenant Association (WCA) went forward with the launch of the new denomination.

At 11 AM on Sunday, May 22, Pastors Lance and Lori plan to host an informational meeting in the Sanctuary about the newly launched denomination and its impact on our district, annual conference and local church.

Congregations who wish to disaffiliate must hold a vote of the church membership which must be approved by a 2/3 majority.  They must then meet certain financial obligations to the Annual Conference for Mission Shares and unfunded pension liability, and approval must be voted upon by the Annual Conference body.  It is hoped by the May 22 meeting there will be more information about how many churches and pastors in our vicinity and in the Great Plains Annual Conference plan to disaffiliate in order to join the new denomination.

Bring any questions you might have and the pastors will try to answer with whatever information may be available at that time.
