Steering Committee Ballot & Candidate Information:

  • TESCA Co-Chair-2nd Year
    • Monique Mueller
Our family came to TES nearly 4 years ago when my children entered 2nd and 4th grades. I'm lucky enough to have the flexibility to engage in the areas that I believe are important and for me that was ensuring I was actively supporting TES with diversity, equity, and inclusion. I started by volunteering in the classroom to get to know the school a bit better. Then I joined the TES-CA Equity Committee. In September I was asked to co-chair TES-CA when the position became open. Having a place for the parents/guardians to collaborate for the school community has been impressive and hard work that I would be honored to continue.
  • TESCA Co-Chair-1st Year
    • Jen Finch
Hello, my name is Jen Finch, and my husband Wade and I have 5 kids. Our oldest 3 will be at TES in the fall (rising 3, 2, and K). I am a pharmacist by training and work in medical information. I have previously been very involved at our preschool, serving as a room parent and on the hospitality committee. I currently serve on the boards of the Durham Summer Swim League and Duke Memorial Weekday School, as well as the Child Care Committee at our church. I am looking forward to getting more involved with the community of TES!
  • Secretary
    • Angela Derby-Wright
has an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s in Business. She spent 12 years working, first as a childcare provider and then as part of the administration team. She owns and operates Whole Child Behavioral Interventions, Inc (WCBI) with her partner Zan Derby-Wright. WCBI provides ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) services for children with Autism and other behavioral concerns. Zan and Angela have twin 11-year-old boys, Jared and Caleb, who have been at the Expedition School since Kindergarten. Their family enjoys anything that involves being outside together. Angela is happy to be considered for a Board position with TESCA.
  • Communications
    • Kylee Sollien
This will be my third year as communications coordinator sending out newsletters, updating the webpage, and resetting those email passwords when they get feisty for everyone on tes-ca. Thanks to everybody for letting us drop some news to your inbox every two weeks. I have two boys in 2nd and K right now that take up most of my non tes-ca time. The rest of the time goes to my day job, working with lab databases and designing electronic lab notebooks for collecting the data. Fun fact, I worked as a graphic designer for the yellow pages in my first job after college. So I’ve been in communications for a long time.
  • Community Liaison 2nd Year
    • Dawn Imershein
Hello! My name is Dawn Imershein and my family has been at TES since it opened back in 2014. My 9th grader attended TES from 2nd-8th grade and my now 7th grader has attended since Kindergarten. I've been involved with TESCA for many years mostly in the role of the Odyssey of the Mind coordinator and also the Educational Enrichment Coordinator that facilitates communication between Odyssey of the Mind, Lego Robotics, Battle of the Books and the Garden committee. I'm very passionate about these enrichment programs as my kids have participated in all of them and they really have enjoyed what each one has to offer. I am also super passionate about the color purple!
  • Community Liaison 1st Year
    • Sophia Pelton
I will be a parent of 3 at TES the year of 22/23. My daughter will be in K and my sons will be in 6th and 7th. I am a business owner and a health care provider (physical therapist). I have been on Steering Committee before and I have greatly enjoyed activities hosted by TESCA over my 8 years at TES. Some of my favorites being Parent's night out and Thanksgiving pies for the teachers. I believe Parents' voices and participation is important for a cohesive school community. In this position I hope to support bringing back social activities that we've missed so much over the past few years of the pandemc.
  • Fundraising Coordinator - 1st Year
    • Open
  • Fundraising Coordinator - 2nd Year (No Re-election Required)
    • Ashley Trahan
My name is Ashley Trahan. I joined TES-CA as the Fundraising Coordinator in 2021 and will continue in this role for 2 years. My goal for fundraising projects is to identify exciting activities that fit the TES vison for parent engagement and student enrichment, and then I oversee making the events happen. This year, the Read-A Thon was a very successful event that has secured funds for TES-CA to support many desired projects for the next school year! In this role, I am able to help support creative ways to engage with our TES Community - inspired by input from parents, students, and staff - and strive to keep things new and fun!
  • Room Parent Coordinator
    • Scott Weakland
I am happy to serve as a TESCA officer. This would be my second TESCA position. I have been a member of the TES community for eight years. My older daughter was part of the inaugural kindergarten class at TES. My younger daughter just completed her third year at TES. Professionally, I am a risk engineer in electrical generation for a public utility. Personally, I enjoy soccer and board games, and supporting my daughters in archery, Girl Scouts and gymnastics
