Your summer 2022 Chatpal newsletter brings news on the ChatPal Trials and App and keeps you up to date with the project.

 


Chatpal Facebook Campaigns  



Facebook campaigns took place in rural NI, ROI, and Scotland (1-30  April) to  both recruit people to the ChatPal trials and gather healthcare professionals views on digital technologies. Further campaigns will take place in Finland in due course.

AIRC Workshop on 'Artificial Intelligence in Action Across Northern Ireland and Beyond'

Title: Co-producing an AI-based mental health chatbot using stakeholder centered design29 April 2022.

Courtney Potts spoke about ChatPal at this event showcasing the work of the Ulster University Artificial Intelligence Research Centre (AIRC). Around 30 people were in attendance for this talk, including academic staff and those interested in AI research from industry and local companies in Northern Ireland. 
 



Vitalis Conference
16 May 2022

Professor Mike McTear spoke about ChatPal at the Vitalis conference. This ehealth event was in-person only, and Mike’s talk was broadcast as a pre-recorded talk. The organiser reported the attendance as 81 senior health executives and academics. More information on the programme and talks recordings  including Mike’s  - please click below.


 
Frontiers in eMental Health - The Future is Now

An online webinar was organised as part of the eMen project https://www.nweurope.eu/projects/project-search/e-mental-health-innovation-and-transnational-implementation-platform-north-west-europe-emen/. The webinar focused on the future of eMental health, beyond the dramatic shift to using video platforms for therapy sessions during the pandemic. Examples included cutting-edge technologies like Virtual Reality (VR), exposure therapy and EMDR,  intelligent agents and chatbots, and dynamic sign-posting.  

The talks explored ways that existing eMental health applications like online CBT, blended care approaches, and online screening and assessment tools can drive innovation in the post-pandemic era. The webinar programme included a number of international and Irish experts and practitioners in the eMental health field. Professor Maurice Muvlenna presented on “ChatPal: a digital solution to make a difference to our everyday mental health and wellbeing”. 59 attendees were at the event, including a range of health care professionals and technologists.


 
Mental Health Awareness Week 
9-12 May 2022

ChatPal issued a media release outlining how the Chatbot App can help tackle loneliness and isolation for people living in rural areas

The theme for Mental Health Awareness 2022 was tackling loneliness and the impact it can have on our mental health and wellbeing. Action Mental Health is involved with  ChatPal's  mental health chatbot. The project led by Ulster University and other partners, aims to offer a 24/7 App to help those living with mental health issues. Courtney Potts, a Research Associate at the University explains a bit more about the project and how it aims to tackle loneliness and isolation for people living in rural areas.

ChatPal Annual Conference 2022 - the Interviews . . .

The 2- day ChatPal partners meet up in Stornoway, Scotland in March 2022 was a great success.  Videos are now available on YouTube covering all the main activities, presentations and talks from the event, which addressed  the current mental health challenges in Ireland, UK, Sweden, and Finland, and how ChatPal can potentially help make positive change.
