Hello GEALC community!!

We have been lucky to have some beautiful sunny days but it is certainly getting colder and more wintry here in Melbourne. We are seeing more cases of Influenza (flu), COVID and the common cold. Look at the poster below for 5 Tips to Stay Healthy During Winter and note that d
octors and health professionals are strongly recommending the Flu Vaccine for this coming winter season.

This week is National Volunteer Week and tomorrow is GEALC's Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea at 10.30am! Let's enjoy a morning tea together, raise important funds for cancer research and say a big THANK YOU to our amazing volunteers. More details below.

There will be no Walk & Talk this week as we will be enjoying our Biggest Morning Tea!

Glen Eira Council is looking to the GEALC community to provide feedback that will help shape the future of aged care services in our area. We ask our students and community members to complete the Living and Ageing Well in Glen Eira survey. See below for more information.

Next week is National Reconciliation Week which is all about strengthening relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous people in Australia. See below for more information. Why not take the time to learn something new about indigenous culture and history or connect in some way with indigenous Australia? Check out NITV: The National Indigenous Television (NITV) is a channel made by, for and about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. NITV informs, educates and entertains its Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences about the issues that matter the most to Indigenous Australians.  NITV provides a rich diversity of cultures, languages and talent.

Throughout May, the Australian Stroke Foundation is encouraging everyone to have their blood pressure checked. Click here for more information.

At GEALC we are here to support you, so if you need anything, please get in touch. If you need general welfare or career guidance or any help understanding health information, please ask - I can help you! For 1:1 pathway guidance meetings with me, Lindy, make a booking at: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/GEALC@gealc.org.au/bookings/

Have a wonderful week! 🙂 Lindy

INFLUENZA (FLU) VACCINES
BOOK NOW WITH YOUR GP OR PHARMACY
Influenza vaccination is particularly important this year. With the easing of international and domestic public health measures arising from the COVID-19 global pandemic, a resurgence of influenza is expected in 2022.
For those who catch the flu, it can result in serious illness. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for all people aged 6 months and over and is the best defense against the flu, helping prevent both severe illness and from spreading it to your loved ones.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK

What is reconciliation? At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. Read more here.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The 2022 theme, Be Brave. Make Change.” is a challenge to all Australians to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians. Find out more here.
