Deadline Approaching for Global Change Seed Grants
The Global Change Center (GCC) at Virginia Tech, with funding from the Fralin Life Sciences Institute and the Institute for Society, Culture, and Environment, is seeking proposals for its 2022-23 Global Change Seed Grant program. Proposals related to social aspects of global change should leverage and integrate a unique combination of social science expertise (social science faculty not required to be affiliated with GCC) with biophysical and/or engineering expertise at VT, and have high potential to eventually leverage external resources.  GCC/ISCE anticipate allocating a total of approximately $30K spread across 1-2 awards. Call for Letters of Inquiry for Research on Older Adults
The Retirement Research Foundation is accepting applications for its grantmaking program in support of projects that directly impact the adult population aged 65 and older. Priority areas include: 1) Caregiving, 2) Housing, 3) Economic Security in Later Life and 4) Social and Intergenerational Connectedness. Click here for details.

RFP for 2023 Young Scholars Program focused on Child Development
The Foundation for Child Development invites Letters of Intent for its 2023 Young Scholars Program. The program funds implementation research that is policy- and practice-relevant and examines the preparation, competency, compensation, well-being, and ongoing professional learning of the early care and education workforce. Award amounts are up to $225,000 for primary data collection or a combination of primary data collection and secondary data analysis and up to $180,000 for secondary data analysis. 2023 Holberg Prize Accepting Nominations
The Holberg Board invites nominations for the 2023 Holberg Prize. Established by the Norwegian parliament in 2003, the approximately $670,000 (NOK 6,000,000) annual prize recognizes outstanding individual contributions to humanities, social sciences, law, and theology. The prize may be awarded for work in one of these fields or through interdisciplinary work.Scholars holding positions at a university, academy, or other research institutions can nominate a candidate for the prize. Call for Economics and Public Policy Proposals
The ‘Research for Social Transformation and Advancement’ (RASTA) is the largest economics and public policy research grants programme in Pakistan. Its mission is to develop a research network of academia and think tanks across Pakistan producing high-quality, evidence-based policy research to inform Pakistan’s public policy process. Research proposals are invited on 21 topics, such as political instability, police reform and the justice system or education, human capital and opportunities for youth. Proposals are solicited from qualified individuals or groups interested in economic development and public policy issues of Pakistan, including researchers at international and local universities and research institutes within and outside Pakistan. Small Research Grant Program for Next Generation of Dementia Researchers
This Small Research Grant (R03), issued by the National Institute on Aging, will support important and innovative projects to provide needed scientific insight to improve the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and/or care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias. Specifically, this opportunity provides support for new researchers or researchers conducting pilot projects in new areas that archive and leverage existing data sets on a wide array of topics relating to Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias   Click here for details.

Policy and Health Disparities Related to Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia

This request for applications solicits research applications examining how policies (i.e., modifiable actions of public or private institutions) influence disparities in access, utilization, and quality of health care for Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's disease-related dementias. The goal is to expand the evidence base for policymakers and other decision makers seeking to mitigate these disparities, including disparities affecting individuals living with dementia in the community, in assisted living facilities, or nursing homes. Call for Policy Analysis Research, Writing
The Smith Richardson Foundation invites applications for its annual Strategy and Policy Fellows grant competition, which will provide at least three research grants of $60,000 in support of research by young scholars and policy thinkers working in the area(s) of American foreign policy, international relations, international security, military policy, and diplomatic and military history that leads to the writing of a book. Disaster Resilience Research Grants
The National Science Foundation and the U.S Department of Commerce, National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) have issued a joint call for proposals to catalyze research into disaster-resilience relevant phenomena in support of improved, science-based measures or mechanisms for improved resilience, including improved planning, policy, decisions, design, codes, and standards or other relevant mechanisms. An informational webcast will be held on June 2nd at 2:00 p.m.  to discuss the program and answer questions. Click here for more details and here for the solicitation.

NSF Announces Partnership and Co-Funding with Social Science Research Council
Through a Dear Colleague Letter (DCL), the Social, Behavioral and Economic (SBE) Sciences directorate of the National Science Foundation has notified the research community of its collaboration with the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) to identify and jointly support research that advances knowledge about the impact of public health guidance. Investigators who are interested in being considered for this funding should follow the standard proposal preparation guidelines and submit proposals to participating SBE programs provided in the DCL. Proposal submissions should adhere to the deadline(s) and submission requirements for the primary program for which they are applying. Click here for details.

Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health
NIH  has reissued several funding opportunities focused on dissemination and implementation research. The purpose of these opportunities is to support studies that will identify, develop, and/or test strategies for overcoming barriers to the adoption, adaptation, integration, scale-up, and sustainability of evidence-based interventions, practices, programs, tools, treatments, guidelines, and policies. Multiple NIH centers and institutes participate in these opportunities. There are three different options:  R01R03 and R21.

Opportunity to Address Health Disparities, Social Inequities
The BUILD Health Challenge (BUILD) is an innovative funding collaborative that seeks to put multi-sector, community-driven partnerships at the center of health to reduce health disparities caused by system-based or social inequity. BUILD invites communities with innovative ideas to apply for its new fourth cohort, which will include support for up to 19 innovative community collaboratives that include a: community-based organization, hospital/health system and/or health plan, public health department, and residents, who are all working together in dynamic ways to address upstream challenges and drive sustainable improvements in community health. The inclusion of additional cross-sector partners such as businesses, universities, foundations, and others aligned with proposed efforts is encouraged. Each award includes up to $300,000 in funding over three years. An application Q&A webinar will be held on May 24, 2022, at 3 p.m. ET. Click here for details.

Funding Opportunity Webinar: Cultural Anthropology
The Cultural Anthropology Program of the NSF Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate supports research aimed at understanding patterns, causes, and consequences of human social and cultural variation. National Academies to Hold Seminar on the Future of Work
On May 31 from 1:30-3:15 p.m., the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will hold a public seminar on the Future of Work during the meeting of the Board on Human-Systems Integration. This seminar, which will feature speakers from scientific societies and federal agencies, will focus on various systems-based issues related to the future of work such as building resilience to threats in the future workplace, understanding how human behavior influences algorithmic bias in workplace decision-making, and understanding how to develop diversity, equity, and inclusion in the future workplace. Resources Available on COVID Coordinating Center Website
The Social, Behavioral, and Economic COVID Coordinating Center (SBE CCC), led by the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, provides a nexus for communication on COVID-19 related research, streamlining information-sharing across the behavioral and social science community, multiple NIH award recipients, and the public. It promotes collaborative work across a multidisciplinary research community and provides teaching materials, data, and opportunities to apply for pilot studies on the impacts of COVID-19 among minority populations. The website includes news and announcements, webinars and podcasts, and featured publications, all on topics related to SBE COVID research. Click here to visit the site.
Request for Information related to Whole Person Health
The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to solicit public comment on defining a set of key determinants of health that addresses all the elements of the whole person health model, i.e., factors that can influence health either positively or negatively, and that encompass the full continuum of biological, behavioral, social, and environmental domains. The goal is to identify a concise list of major determinants that best define the health/disease continuum from the whole person perspective, regardless of any potential interrelationships with other determinants. Response to this RFI is voluntary and may be submitted anonymously. Click here for details and to submit a response by June 17th, 2022.
