Can you believe it? We’re just over a week away from this year’s hackathon (Thursday June 2nd - Saturday June 4th)!
In our last email we shared some information on schedule with you. This week, we’re talking technology.
What do I need to bring?
At a minimum, you'll need to bring your own laptop and charger. We'd also recommend you bring a charger for your mobile phone. Other than that we will provide power strips, WiFi, and plenty of sticky notes!
What sort of tech do I need to know?
Thursday night, after you've formed teams, your team will discuss what your tech stack should look like based on the needs of your nonprofit and the skillset of your team. We have built a Hacker On-Boarding web site that provides some guidance for getting started on your project and tools that you can check out and consider for your solutions. However, please don't be limited by that guidance. We are looking for you to flex your knowledge here and do what you do best. Ultimately, your work will need to be maintained by the nonprofit, so make sure you’re picking tools and solutions that don’t require full time software engineering staff! Also, if you have any suggestions for the on-boarding site we'd appreciate if you send a pull request.
Slack
The preferred platform for team communication once the event begins. You will be sent an invitation to participate by a planning committee member. And, during the event, this is where you'll find tech support.
Github
We will setup teams in Github under the dsmHack org so you all have a centralized place to keep your work.
Change in plans?
If you have had a change in schedule and can no longer participate, please let us know ASAP so someone from the waitlist can take your spot.We cannot offer refunds, but we can allow someone else to volunteer. It's crucial we have all of our volunteer spots filled to make sure all teams reach their goals.
We have partnered with CrowdPass to help streamline verification of vaccination status for all of our volunteers, organizers, and nonprofits. If you could please click the "Verify your vaccination status" button below and get your vaccination status verified as soon as possible that would really help us out. Please note that we are requiring that you are fully-vaccinated as defined by the CDC.
