As a result of COVID, the federal government has sent over $3 billion dollars to local Alabama school districts. School districts submitted plans to show how they plan to spend their share. This record influx of funds presents an unprecedented one-time opportunity to invest in students and their learning, especially as they recover from the effects of COVID-19.
As schools continue to spend this money through 2024, it is critical that we as advocates, families, decision-makers, and community members track how the money is being spent. We have an opportunity to learn what is working to help students recover, what’s not, and how districts can use this information to update their plans.
