"SWA Sector Ministers' Meeting 2022"
The 2022 Sector Ministers’ Meeting (SMM), hosted by the Government of Indonesia, is taking place on 18-19 May 2022, in Jakarta. From the Region, we will have the following participating government delegations: Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Suriname, Panama and Brazil, and from other constituencies: Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua.
Building on previous SWA High-level Meetings (HLMs), the 2022 SMM is a critical opportunity to link with other sectors, with a view towards increasing the prioritization of water, sanitation, and hygiene across national policies.
Theme: Building Forward Better for Recovery and Resilience
For the first time in an SWA High-level Meeting, the 2022 SMM will bring together ministers of water, sanitation, and hygiene, and their counterparts responsible for climate, environment, health, and the economy. It will provide a space for leaders around the world to meet and find innovative ways to work together to increase the political prioritization of water, sanitation, and hygiene and ensure the integration of these services in national climate, health, and economic policies and strategies. Delegations from the different SWA constituencies will also join the discussions.

Clearer than water: Water management and governance in Latin America and the Caribbean
UNDP Latin America- Although water is the subject of SDG 6, it actually crosses the entire SDG Agenda with implications for different areas such as human health, agriculture, energy, business, culture and ecosystems. Yet billions of people still do not have access to this vital resource. And if we don't act now, this amount is likely to increase in the future, as the impacts of climate change are expected to increasingly affect the quality and quantity of water available to meet basic human needs. It is estimated that by 2050 more than 50% of the world's population will live in areas of water scarcity. However, the world water crisis today is mainly a question of governance rather than the availability of the resource.

RMRP 2021 End-Year Report
R4V - In 2021, more than 3 million refugees and migrants from Venezuela and the communities hosting them received assistance from organizations working in partnership through the R4V Inter-Agency Coordination Platform to carry out activities of the Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan (RMRP).
WASH: Venezuelans received drinking water and had access to restrooms, showers, sanitation facilities and hygiene items thanks to R4V WASH Sector partners, who installed and maintained critical sanitation infrastructure, including at border crossings, in shelters, reception centres, and Support Spaces throughout the region, and distributed personal protective equipment (PPE), hygiene kits and menstrual hygiene items to thousands of vulnerable refugees and migrants.

Newly published: WHO/UNICEF Water and sanitation for health facility improvement tool (WASH FIT) Second Edition
WASH FIT is a risk-based, quality improvement tool for health care facilities, covering key aspects of WASH services: water; sanitation; hand hygiene; environmental cleaning; health care waste management; and selected aspects of energy, building and facility management.
The first edition of WASH FIT, published in 2018, is in use in over 40 countries as of 2022. This second edition responds to user requests for more indicators and has an emphasis on climate, gender equality and inclusion, and prevention (WASH in support of prevention of all avoidable infections in health care) with linkages to infection prevention, antimicrobial resistance and quality of care.
The approach and WASH standards are the same as those included in the original WASH FIT and thus those already implementing WASH FIT can use the new package to improve and expand existing efforts.
A launch webinar was jointly organized by WHO and UNICEF on April 26th. The recording of the webinar is available in English, in French and in Spanish.

Systems Thinking for Effective Interventions in Global Environmental Health
Environmental Science & Technology -Environmental health risks such as household air pollution due to burning solid fuels, inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene, and chemical pollution disproportionately affect the poorest and most marginalized populations. While billions of dollars and countless hours of research have been applied toward addressing these issues in both development and humanitarian contexts, many interventions fail to achieve or sustain desired outcomes over time.
