This week we are supporting Pink Shirt Day on Friday the 20th May.
‘Pink Shirt Day is about working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusiveness.
It’s about creating a community where all people feel safe, valued and respected, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion or cultural background.’
Yes, we have bullying at South End School. There are many reasons why kids bully other kids. They may be struggling with the death of a relative, parents separating, a family trauma, neglect causing them to lash out at others for attention, or going through a normal development stage where they experiment with control and dominance. This does not mean that bullying behaviour is OK.
South End School have a zero tolerance for all forms of bullying. We strive to teach our tamariki kindness and respect, where everyone is being heard and listened to. To achieve this we need your help and communication, so we can nip the behaviour in the bud and resolve conflict early.
So let’s all wear pink on Friday and celebrate our differences!

Now that we can have hui in the hall again, we celebrated, on Monday, the new entrants that started this year. What a bunch of cuties!

HERO: Is our School management System. It is vital that all families hook up to Hero so that we can communicate with you. As we get up and running you will be able to see your child and their learning progress. There are also features such as sending an absence (that gets sent directly to the class roll) and viewing medical room visits. When making an account on the Hero app please use the same email you have registered with the school (so it links to your child/ren), if you would like to update your email address please email us at office@southend.school.nz and tell us your email address + the student profile to attach it to. click here for more information: Hero.

Water
We are a Water Only School. We encourage all students to have a water bottle with them at school. If a child brings another type of drink to school the teachers will take the drink off them and give it back at the end of the day, to take home.
