Our mission is to be a reliable and engaging source of news for the communities of Eastern Santa Cruz County - open to all views, focused on local issues, written and edited by local people, and providing a platform for community education and involvement.

Have you considered how many stories would go untold if it were not for the PRT? Take last week’s San Rafael Fire. The PRT provided daily and sometimes hourly “Breaking News” updates providing our communities with vital information, up-to-date details about the fire as well as where to go for emergency support. We received countless kudos for our breaking news bulletins. 

The last two years have been a challenging time for our world, our nation and our communities.The PRT has increased our coverage to provide you with more frequent local information. Please read our 2021 Annual Report to see what makes your local newspaper sustainable: our donors, our advertisers, our volunteers (citizen journalists and board of directors), and readers like you.

However, the free press is not free. We need your help. Please will you contribute to our $5000 spring fundraising campaign? Your donation will be doubled for the next 10 days. 

Our eleven-member Board of Directors has pledged $2500 as a matching challenge to our community for this campaign. Within the next ten days we hope to raise $2500 from our newsletter subscribers.
