Venedig Biennalen x 2023

Det er med stor glæde, vi kan annoncere, at grundlægger og direktør for Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx) Josephine Michau er blevet valgt som kurator for Den Danske Pavillon på Venedigs Arkitekturbiennale i 2023.

‘Hvordan finder vi hjem?’ – Samtalerække i juni om stedsans i byen

I samarbejde med The Empty Square vil vi gennem samtalerækken ’Hvordan finder vi hjem?’ reflektere over vores stedsans i en tid, hvor byens hastige udvikling truer den rumlige fordybelse. Har vi mistet fornemmelsen for et sted? Har vi glemt, hvordan vi skaber tilknytning gennem vores hjem og vores omgivelser? Vi kredser os ind på spørgsmålene via en række meget forskellige samtaler, der kigger nærmere på de kredsløb, relationer og fællesskaber, der skal til for at kultivere en unik fornemmelse af sted.

Mad og Arkitektur - samtale med arkitekt og forfatter Carolyn Steel 

Første samtale i ‘Hvordan finder vi hjem?’ handler om byudvikling set gennem fødevareproduktion og madkultur. Vi har til dette arrangement, udover The Empty Square, også slået os sammen med Heartland Festival.

Kan vi redde os selv og verden ved at forstå værdien af mad og den helt centrale rolle, som maden spiller i vores liv og vores kultur? 

Steels refleksioner er essentielle, akutte og, for hver eneste af os, dybt vedkommende. Det begynder med det uskyldige spørgsmål "hvad skal vi have til middag?", som viser sig at indkapsle intet mindre end nøglen til fremtiden. 

Mød Carolyn Steel, en førende global tænker inden for forholdet mellem mad, byer og kultur i en samtale med Matt Orlando fra Amass, modereret af Anne Katrine Harders fra Dansk Arkitektur Center.

Arrangementet kræver armbånd til Heartland Festival.

Den økonomiske by: Stedsans i byens udvikling

Anden samtale i ‘Hvordan finder vi hjem’ handler om stedsans og ejendomsudvikling. Hvad ligger der bag selve udformningen af arkitekturen? Kan en skarp sans for stedet og lokalsamfundets behov kombineres med de økonomiske mål og krav hos private ejendomsudviklere? Hvordan skabes der rum til det organiske, det langsommelige og det menneskelige? 

Mød Jens Stausholm, indehaver af det private udviklingsselskab Stadt, Katherine Ines, skrædder og indehaver af skrædderiet ’Dress by Ines’ og Lars Bramsen, projektudvikler i PensionDanmark, i en samtale om stedsans og byudvikling.

Klima: Kunst + Arkitektur

Ursula von der Leyen har selv sagt det i forbindelse med lanceringen af The New European Bauhaus: Kunsten og arkitekturen er vigtige faktorer i den bæredygtige omstilling!

Klimakrisen er vor tids største udfordring. Men hvordan forholder de to kunstarter sig til den – og hvordan bidrager de med løsninger, sammen og hver for sig? Hvor findes de gode eksempler?

Art Hub Copenhagen og Copenhagen Architecture Festival inviterer til årets anden samtale om krydsfeltet mellem kunst og arkitektur, denne gang med fokus på klima. Vi inviterer relevante stemmer fra de to fag til en fælles samtale d. 14. Juni kl. 17-19 på Halmtorvet 27. Mød bl.a. landskabsarkitekt Kristine Jensen, bygningsarkitekt Søren Pihlmann og billedkunstner Camilla Nørgaard.
 

Arrangementet vil blive moderet af forkvinde for Billedkunstnernes Forbund, BKF, billedkunstner Marie Thams.

Den åndelige by: Byen som fælles hjem 

Tredje samtale i ‘Hvordan finder vi hjem’ handler om sammenhængskraft: Er byen virkelig et sted for alle?

Fællesskab er det helt store modeord i byudviklingen i disse år, men hvordan står det til med det store, grundlæggende fællesskab: vores kultur? Ikke kultur forstået som det etablerede ’kulturliv’ med de institutioner og specifikke aktiviteter, vi i dag betegner som ’kulturelle’ – men som et fælles åndeligt rum, en overbevisning, eller med filosoffen Morten Skrivers ord: en etisk forpligtende forståelse af altings sammenhæng. 

Hvad betyder fællesskaber i dag? Og er vores byer virkelig et hjem for alle? Har vi brug for at nyfortolke det hjemlige i en verden i opbrud?

Glæd dig til at møde Morten Skriver, kunstner og filosof, Mille Rode, generalsekretær i Dansk PEN og Jens Andreas Christensen, præst på Nørrebro og feltpræst i Søværnet, i en samtale om byen som fælles hjem, etisk sammenhængskraft og behovet for de helt store fællesskaber.

Den lille by: Urbanisering i udkanten

Fjerde samtale i ‘Hvordan finder vi hjem?’ handler om periferien: Hvordan kan vi komme affolkningen til livs gennem stedsans?

Højt mod nord ligger den lille norske ø Træna (ca. 450 indb.), som på få år har genopfundet sig selv ud fra en unik sans for stedet og dets potentiale. Træna er historien om at sanse et sted og dets identitet og om at synliggøre, aktivere og udvikle denne identitet i fællesskab. Denne tilgang har givet øen nyt liv og beriget den med et narrativ, der viser en ny retning for de små samfund i periferien, hvor den lokale energi blot venter på forløsning.

Ansøgninger om efterårspraktik på CAFx er stadig åbne!

Vi søger 3-4 praktikanter i efteråret til primært at afvikle festivalprogrammet i oktober og sekundært til at udvikle programmet for 2023.

Arbejdsopgaver inkluderer event-koordinering, kommunikation, marketing og logistik og du vil komme til at arbejde tæt sammen med et lille team af dedikerede kollegaer i et dynamisk arbejdsmiljø i Kødbyen i København.

It is with great pride that we announce that founder and director of Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx) Josephine Michau has been chosen as curator for the Danish Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale with the theme ‘climate adaptation of future coastal landscapes’.

‘How do we get home?’ - A series of conversations in June about the sense of place in the city

In collaboration with The Empty Square, through the series of conversations ‘How do we get home?’, we will reflect on our sense of place in a time when the city's rapid development threatens spatial immersion. Have we lost the sense of place? Have we forgotten how to create connections with our home and our surroundings? We turn to these questions through a series of very different conversations, which take a closer look at the circuits, relationships and communities that are needed to cultivate a unique sense of place.

Food and Architecture - conversation with architect and author Carolyn Steel at the Heartland Festival

The first conversation in ‘How do we get home?’ is about urban development seen through food production and food culture. Can we save ourselves and the world by understanding the value of food and the central role that food plays in our lives and our culture?

Steel's reflections are essential, acute and, for each and every one of us, profound. They begin with the innocent question "what shall we have for dinner?", which turns out to encapsulate nothing less than the key to the future.

Meet Carolyn Steel, a leading global thinker in the relationship between food, cities and culture in a conversation with Matt Orlando from Amass, moderated by Anne Katrine Harders from the Danish Architecture Center.

The event requires bracelets for the Heartland Festival.

The Economic City: Sense Of Place In Urban Development

The second conversation in ‘How do we get home?’ is about sense of place and property development. What is behind the actual design of architecture? Can a keen sense of the place and the needs of the local community be combined with the financial goals and requirements of private property developers? How is space created for the organic, the slow and the human?

Meet Jens Stausholm, owner of the private development company Stadt, Katherine Ines, tailor and owner of the tailor 'Dress by Ines' and Lars Bramsen, project developer at PensionDanmark, in a conversation about sense of place and urban development.

CLIMATE: ART + ARCHITECTURE

Ursula von der Leyen said it herself at the launch of The New European Bauhaus: art and architecture are important factors in the sustainable transition!

The climate crisis is the greatest challenge of our time. But how do the two arts relate to it - and how do they contribute solutions, together and separately? Where are the good examples?

Art Hub Copenhagen and Copenhagen Architecture Festival invite you to the second conversation of the year on the intersection between art and architecture, this time with a focus on climate. We invite relevant voices from both disciplines to a joint conversation on 14. Meet landscape architect Kristine Jensen, building architect Søren Pihlmann and visual artist Camilla Nørgaard.

The event will be moderated by the president of the BKF, artist Marie Thams.

The Spiritual City: The City as a Common Home

The third conversation in ‘How do we get home?’ is about cohesion: Is the city really a place for everyone?

Community is the big buzzword in urban development these years, but what about the big, basic community: our culture? Not culture understood as the established 'cultural life' with institutions and specific activities we today describe as 'cultural' - but as a common spiritual space, a belief, or in the words of the philosopher Morten Skriver: an ethically binding understanding of the context of everything.

What do communities mean today? And are our cities really a home for everyone? Do we need to reinterpret the domestic in a world in upheaval?

Look forward to meeting Morten Skriver, artist and philosopher, Mille Rode, Secretary General of Dansk PEN and Jens Andreas Christensen, pastor of Nørrebro and field pastor of the Navy, in a conversation about the city as a common home, ethical cohesion and the need for large communities .

The Small Town: Urbanisation on the Periphery

The fourth conversation in ‘How do we find a home’ is about the periphery: How can we bring depopulation to life through a sense of place?

High to the north is the small Norwegian island of Træna (approx. 450 inhabitants), which in a few years has reinvented itself on the basis of the unique sense of the place and its potential. Træna is the story of sensing a place and its identity and of making this identity visible, activating and developing it together. This approach has given the island new life and enriched it with a narrative that shows a new direction for the small communities in the periphery, where the local energy is just waiting for redemption.

The application deadline for Copenhagen Architecture Festival’s Film + Architecture Summer School is coming up! This year’s edition is dedicated to inclusive and non-discriminatory design solutions in the built and planned environment.  

It takes place in Copenhagen 20th - 28th August 2022, it’s free of costs and the application deadline is 30th May 2022.

CAFx is looking for interns!

Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx) is looking for 3-4 interns for the Fall to assist primarily with the execution of the 2022 program running in October, secondarily with the development of the 2023 program.

Tasks include event coordination, communications, marketing, logistics, and you will collaborate closely with a small team of dedicated festival people in a vibrant work environment in Copenhagen’s Meatpacking District.
