*I'm sorry for the re-send. I had a couple of incorrect links. My apologies.*
Hi there,

I haven't sent out a home renovation update in a really long time. As I was getting ready to send out an email today, I thought that some of you might be interested in a renovation update along with some pictures. (And if you really don't care, just skip down to see which classes are coming up!)

Every bathroom in this house had to be completely gutted. You'll notice the repetition of tiles — decision fatigue is a real thing, and sometimes it's just nice to be consistent. In one bathroom we found an old desk at an auction and with the help of my dad (who is a wonderful wood worker — he's actually a luthier) we converted it into a vanity. With a leftover piece of kitchen counter (long story there) we were able to make this bathroom pretty great on a budget. The other bathroom is the en-suite. The vanity and the box on the wall were built by my dad and our amazing do-everything contractor, Aubrey. The bath mat on the floor I knit to fit the space. That window is a favourite perch for the cats (this is Hestia in this picture), particularly when Aubrey is on the scaffolding outside.
Outside, Aubrey has been building a dormer. It took forever to get the building permit (everyone is SO busy — building and renos are booming here), but once we did this went up quickly. It's here to raise the roof (whoop whoop) so there is enough ceiling height over the stairs which will eventually lead to The Loft.
You can see the ceiling above the stairs (the original roof) hasn't been removed yet. The dormer is directly above it. And the stairs are currently a ladder. One of the cats (Circe) had figured out how to get into this room and how to run up the ladder. From The Loft, she found her way into the space between the floors and I heard her from below through the ceiling — we were able to lure her out with treats. Cat shenanigans are a source of entertainment here for us all.

Below you can see The Loft space! The big front window was removed to be replaced, but in the meantime, it makes a convenient delivery route for building supplies. A crane lifts large orders of framing materials, plywood, concrete, insulation...through the window. The floor is concrete because it's HEATED. Oh yeah, a heated floor. It will have hardwood floating over it sooon(ish). Other windows are going in as skylights — you can see where in the ceiling there is no insulation — there will be a lot of light up here.

That's it for the update. I don't know when it will be completed. I have dates circled on the calendar that I'm hoping for, but some of it is weather-dependent (roofing can't be done in the rain) and the roof needs to be completed before windows go in, before flooring is done. I'm grateful that we're this far, and I'm working on cultivating patience as we come towards the finish line.
I woke up this morning and decided that I haven't done an Introduction to the Science of Breath in too long, so I've scheduled one. If you're new to my work, this is a really accessible class that anyone can attend to start to learn more about functional breathing. It's a 90-min class on Zoom. Previously it's been a webinar, but I want people to come to learn, but also feel free to interact during the class. And it's going to be more than just a webinar lecture — there will be some lecture, but also come ready to move and breathe together. Join me Wednesday, June 29, at 7pm ET. No worries if you can't be there live, I will record it for you to watch later. If you have questions, you can get more information here, or email me with your questions.

The latest Breath Retraining Course has begun, and it's a really lovely group. I'm excited that I'll be offering a summer class this year (which I rarely do). If you are looking to work on your own breathing, and things are a little less stressful for you over the summer, please join me. Stress can interfere with retraining breathing patterns, as the nervous system influences our breathing significantly. The summer session begins the week of July 18 with introductory one-on-one sessions.

Finding Kevala Pranayama will be returning in the autumn in a slightly different format. It will be spread over a longer period of time, but will also include more practice time together. Both of these changes will allow for more integration of the materials into your own practice — and in turn, into your teaching. This course is open to yoga teachers and advanced yoga practitioners. Pre-registration is open for those who are keen. If you're quite new to breathing, or if you have any breathing dysfunction, I would recommend taking The Breath Retraining Course first, although it's not required.

I hope that you're having a lovely spring. I really look forward to seeing many of you soon.

Warmly,
Jennifer

"I loved the breath retraining course! Despite being a breath professional and knowing a lot about breathing, I needed some support for my own breathing practice. I was aware of my own breathing dysfunctions, and wanted to work deliberately on them.
Even after the course I felt motivated to continue with the practices, and I really feel the difference. I recommend the course even for those who do not struggle with breathing or stress.
Everything just feels easier when breathing is easier."
