SDBE – Term 5 Update
The image above is a winning photograph from NATRE’s Spirited Arts 2018 theme ‘Making Peace’ Called Peace Rocks, this work came from the Year 8 Enrichment Day at Ivy Bridge Community College and the words below accompanied the image as part of their entry.

On the day we created our work it was ‘international drop a rock day’ we used as a basis to our piece of work. Pebble art is becoming increasingly popular as a way of spreading messages and sentiments.
The pebbles that we painted had famous quotes about peace and what we could do to achieve it today. We looked at peace within us, in the community and the world. Some of us also created our own idea about how peace could be achieved.
By hiding them around the school we hoped that students would find them and take them home! They can then share the sentiment with others including friends and family. They can then hide the pebbles for others to find.
Our hope is that it teaches people to think about making peace today in our school, family, and the world. The bright rainbow colours made them eye catching as well as the idea of diversity, equality, and peace for all.
Peace can rock!!

Closing Statement

Peace

What if everyone in the world was equal?
What if the news showed everybody together, the same, living in peace?
The dove is a symbol of peace.
The collage of faces shows everybody together in peace.
With all types of people equal and in peace the world would be a much better place
It could happen if people would practice kindness,
compassion and live in empathy for each other.
This collage is to promote world peace and equality.

Ben (11) New Horizons learning centre

We thank God for the peaceful places in your schools; for the peace of mind you bring to others because of your work.

With our Very Best Wishes
Nicola and Emma
