How A Widow Perseveres Through Extreme Difficulty
by Impact Middle East leader

This story contains content that some may find disturbing

A woman from the Middle East lost her husband suddenly. She became a widow and could barely support her three children. She asked for help from her home church and shared her circumstances with the church leaders. They provided money for the house rent and education for her oldest child.

In 2012, the war began. Many explosions were taking place in many parts of the country including where the woman and her family lived. One day an explosion happened at the school of her youngest son. She was terrified at the news and ran to the school to find out how her son was. She was relieved at the fact that he was not injured.

A month after this incident, she was sitting at the balcony of her home. There were clashes between the fighting groups and firing of arms broke out. She felt a bullet hitting her back. Blood started flowing from her injury. She was moved to the hospital by her neighbors on a wheelchair as there was no ambulance available. At the hospital, she had to undergo a surgery to remove the bullet from her back. It took three months to recover. God’s hand was present in her healing as she constantly prayed and asked God to heal her. When fully recovered, she decided to work at the small sewing workshop belonging to her church to make a living. The condition of her family started to improve.

In 2018, her son reached the age of service at the army. She decided to leave her country as she feared for his life in this irrational war. When she and her children came to the area, she joined our church. The church has taken care of her and her family spiritually. Her life started to change as she continued to attend the church. Now she works at our sewing workshop and her children are settled in their new life.

I am very grateful for this lady’s commitment to the church and to her love for God. Please pray for her and for the blessings of the Lord over this family so they continue to see the hand of the mighty in their lives.

Meet Nisaf, a winsome twelve-year-old girl in Kurdistan (northern Iraq). She lives with her family in a refugee camp, along with 8,000 other children and their families, after they fled from ISIS terrorists. Through five short videos Nisaf shows us where she lives and other special places in the camp, including the Noor Center. Established by Impact Middle East, the Noor Center creates ways for children to laugh, play, and feel safe again after all the trauma they have experienced in their lives. Reproducible handouts provide activities and additional information for each of the videos. Project options provide ways for children’s groups to help children like Nisaf.
