Nominations are now open for the 2022 Summer Trillium Recognition Program

NIAGARA FALLS, ONDo you, or does someone you know, have an exceptional front yard landscape? Nominations are now being accepted online for the Niagara Falls Summer Trillium Recognition program at www.niagarafalls.ca/trillium. This free program encourages residents to beautify their curbside landscaping to foster city-wide beautification and encourage positive environmental practices.

Starting June 1, 2022, Niagara Falls property owners will be able to visit the program’s webpage to nominate their own property or someone else’s. Nominated property owners will have an opportunity to have their curbside landscaping assessed by locally trained horticulturalists. Assessments follow a criteria developed to encompass the fundamentals of a preferred landscape (principles of design, turf, plants, hardscapes, environmental features, and unique features.) Through the assessment, participants will be able to achieve either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Trillium Rating. Details on both the assessment criteria and Trillium rating values can be viewed on the program’s webpage. Participants who achieve a Trillium rating will be given an ornamental garden stake.

The deadline to enter the program is July 1, 2022 by 4:00 p.m.

New for 2022:

  • the Trillium Sub-Committee is encouraging residents to incorporate pollinators and edible plants to their curbside landscaping, adding to the environmental component of the program.
  • the assessment criteria has also been altered slightly to encourage more positive environmental engagement with residents and their landscapes.
  • the program offers online gardening learning tools and essentials to help beginners get started through a Q&A feature, where residents can ask professionals precise gardening questions.
