That’s right, the highly sought-after green/yellow street signs are finally available, including the Pacific Avenue signs with palm trees. Plus a few bonus signs listed at the very end.
This eBay auction event will run from May-June 2022, and every day three different signs will be posted for 10-day duration auctions. Below is a list of signs with starting prices and dates. No, we only have SELECT signs from the City of Wildwood. See the list above for what's available.
- Do you have signs that aren't listed above?
No, all the signs we have are listed above. We have done a thorough inventory and know exactly what we have. If it's not listed, we don't have it.
- Will more signs be available in the future?
Unlikely any time soon. The sign replacements are nearly complete in Wildwood. This is likely your last chance to own a Wildwood street sign for a very long time.
- Are the signs authentic? How old are they?
Yes, all the signs are authentic and stood at intersections for at least 10-15 years. We don't know exactly what year they were put up.
They vary in size but most of the green ones are around 2-3’ long.
- What condition are the signs in?
Due to the authenticity of the signs, they have experienced years of shore climate weathering and could be faded, rusty, bent, etc. See listing photos for condition of signs. The green signs rub off so be sure to wear gloves or wash hands and keep away from light-colored fabrics.
- Who makes money from these signs?
Only the Wildwood Historical Society profits from the signs. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to maintaining our history museum and keeping our doors open. The city does not make money from this fundraiser.
- How did we get these signs?
For the past few years, the city has been replacing its old signs and very generously passing the old ones on to us as a fundraiser for our nonprofit's mission of preserving Wildwoods’ history. We are grateful for their generosity.
Yes, we use Fedex and there will be a shipping charge for ground shipping. However, you can also choose FREE pickup at checkout. Free parking lot parking. Because these signs are fairly large, if you choose shipping, we reserve the right to delay shipping until we find a box that your sign will fit in. "It’s been called the pizza slice house, the triangle house and the A house," reporter Tim Hawk wrote for NJ.com. The A-Frame's story has captivated the state and beyond, being featured on NBC 7 New York, NBC 10 Philadelphia, NJ Dot Com, Penn Live, and beyond. Its history was written by Wildwood Sun By The Sea Magazine (see below), and its architecture has been featured all over Instagram, most notably on Zillow Gone Wild where it garnered 29,000 likes!
We don't have a lot of time, but by donating whatever you can, we have a chance to save this local landmark. According to The Wildwood Sun by the Sea Magazine, "it was built by Glenn Dye circa 1960. According to Thomas Raniszewski, his family owned the lot and Glenn worked for Scrivanni Buick before it closed to make way for the Wawa at Pine Ave. Although the house may have been adapted as a livable dwelling as the years went on, it was never intended to be a house. Glenn ordered this structure in the form of a kit and built it himself. Such simple, utilitarian structures were available and there are more 'kit houses' on the island then we are aware of. (Many of the homes I’ve featured in The Sun over the years, are “kit houses” ordered from Sears & Roebuck)"
"Glenn built this to be used as a clubhouse for his ‘bottle collector’ group of which Dye was president of the local chapter," the Sun continued. "It was a group of eccentric guys who would meet there on a monthly basis and bring their old bottles found on their digs. They would have show & tell and swap and even sell their bottles to each other. They also had their own quarterly newsletter that may have been published from inside the A House."
