Sixth Grade Field and Community Service Days

The sixth grade students had an extraordinary experience this week in participating in community service events. Students visited Ohio Living Quaker Heights for rock painting and BINGO with the residents and also participated in school campus cleanup. The sixth graders also participated in a one day Character & Leadership Camp in which they experienced teamwork, communication, self-control and many other attributes. The zipline and confidence course was a huge success as many gained courage to climb the 40-foot tower and “zip” with the “three-at-a-time” zipline. Classmates encouraged each other to face their fears and helped each other through teamwork in negotiating the 6 different stations. The sixth graders were rewarded for their good deeds with ice cream provided by the District office. Good luck to the Class of 2028 as you enter the Junior High!

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Friday May 13:
🥎Waynesville 9-Bellbrook 7
After Bellbrook went up 7-6 in the top of the sixth Waynesville took the lead back with two outs in the bottom of the inning thanks to a single by FR Lauren Rieger (1for3;1R), single by FR Ava Hallows (2for4;2R) and a HR by FR Kylie Bailey (3for4;4RBIs;3R- 2HR💣), her second on the day and 11th of the season.
JR Jenna Bulcher went 1for3 with her first 💣 of the season.  She finished with 3RBIs and 1R scored.   FR Amanda Tudela (1for2) added 2RBIs and 1R while FR Katie McKeehan added a run.
JR Maddie Almeter (7-2) was the winning pitcher going 4 innings and allowing 4R (1ER).  Tudela (12-6) started the game and went 3 innings allowing just 3 hits and 3R (2ER).  She had 5Ks.

Saturday May 14:
🥎Waynesville 4-Carlisle 6
The Spartans gave it everything and more but came up short in their last home league game of the season.

The Spartans had 5 hits.  FR Kylie Bailey (1for2;2RBIs;1R), FR Amanda Tudela (1for3;1RBI), FR Katelynn  Eckley (1for3), FR Lauren Rieger (1for4;1RBI), and FR Ava Hallows (1for2;1R) each managed one hit to lead Waynesville Varsity Spartans.  SR Ashley Lukens contributed a run.

Aside from a 5 run 3rd inning by the Indians, pitching and defense did a great job of holding the Indians at bay.

Tudela took the loss allowing 10 hits and 6 runs (5ER).  SR Maddie Almeter took over in the 6th and shut down the Indians.

The Spartans clinched the SWBL East Division Title with their win over Franklin on Wednesday.

Monday May 16:
Waynesville 3- Miami East 5🥎
District Semi-Finals
🧡Seniors Darby and Lukens led the team.  They were our leaders all season and didn’t let up last night.
🖤Savanna did a whole scouting report on Miami East by watching and reviewing Game Changer information.  She made us look good by setting up helmets and bats nice and orderly!
🧡Addie, Cheyenne, Jesse and Danie DID NOT STOP cheering.  I thought Addie was going to pass out and Cheyenne probably lost her voice again.
🖤Alyssa was ready to run and did when Katelyn reached base with one hit and two walks.
🧡Ava- not feeling real well yesterday, went 4for5, scored a run and did phenomenal at third saving a couple for sure runs from scoring early.
🖤Jenna went 2for4 with 1RBI and 1R.  She hit her second 💣 of the year to tie us at 2 in the top of the 6th.
🧡Kylie went 2for5 with 1RBI and 1R.
🖤Maddie had a shot up the middle for a hit.
🧡Katie Mac was a wall at first with 11 chances and 11 putouts including a double play.
🖤Our outfield kicked butt especially Lauren  out in center field who tracked down and caught a number of fly balls to save some more hits in the game.
🧡Finally, Amanda.  Amanda pitched one heck of a game.  Both pitchers were literally neck and neck allowing 11 hits each.  Amanda had less walks (1) and more

SEAL OF BILITERACY
Seniors pictured above from left to right:
Ashley Tudela, Rachel Ingle, Eryn Barrett, Kylie Kazmierski
Congratulations to Eryn Barrett, Rachel Ingle, Makayla Kamp, Kylie Kazmierski, Grant Kazmierski, Megan Spencer, and Ashley Tudela for passing the Seal of Biliteracy.

Passing the Seal of Biliteracy means that these seven students are proficient in two languages.  They are not only bilingual, they are bi-literate which means they are able to read, write, speak and understand Spanish at a proficient level.  It takes dedication, hard work, taking upper level Spanish courses where they are fully immersed in Spanish, and the love of learning Spanish to pass this difficult test.  Students in Spanish IV and V are given the opportunity to test every year in April. The foreign language department hopes these seven students will motivate many more to challenge themselves and continue learning and taking upper level foreign languages classes during their high school career.

Congratulations to the Class of 2022 and the guidance department for their advisory efforts, and dedication to placing information in the hands of our seniors.  So many of our 2022 graduating class members have already notified the school guidance office of their plans after graduation and we wish them all the very best of luck in their journey.  Whether our students have chosen to attend college and continued education, to serve our country in one of the branches of our armed forces, or to have a more direct path into the workforce, we wish them continued success and growth in their chosen field.

*These photos reflect notifications already submitted, and may not reflect late decisions or changes made after the date of photos.

FUN LEARNING IN FIRST GRADE!
Dr. Arbernathy visited Mrs. Janusik and Mrs. Gaver’s first grade classroom this week! The first graders are learning about different animal groups. They had fun learning about a job that you can do with animals. The students got to dress up like a vet!  She read them a book about the different types of vets. She also brought fun x-rays for them look at. She showed them how to perform surgery on a dog. They had animal crackers for a fun snack. Thank you Dr. Abernathy!

MORE LEARNING FUN IN FIRST GRADE!
Kendra Hickey, a student from the Warren County Career Centers Veterinary Science Program, came to teach first grade students about chameleons. First graders learned about reptiles and got to see firsthand what one looks like and how it uses its tongue to eat. Students listened to a story about how chameleons' mood can change their color and tail shape. Stormy, the chameleon, got a little nervous and started to turn a dull green and she straightened her tail. Stormy performed well and showed students how she snaps her tongue in and out to catch food. Thank you so much Miss Hickey for the amazing experience.
