June 13th Funday Monday
Exhibition Night Submission Rules
Changes & Updates Review
We had a good session reviewing the rules with some members in our May Funday Monday and we will have a brief repeat of this review for members that may have missed it.
The APAC Executive have undergone a review process of the rules changes proposals from the subcommittee and have ratified the changes.
It's important that all members participating in club competition nights are familiar with submission rules that apply to each category.
We will also be introducing a new category for next year!
We will also have a Show & Tell if time permits.
Join us while we discuss and review the updates and changes.
We hope to see you there!

APAC Calendar Project Fundraiser
Beautiful Abbotsford.
APAC has embarked on a fundraising project for our 2022-2023 year.
We are creating a 2023 Calendar entitled "Beautiful Abbotsford" featuring 13 images from Abbotsford taken by APAC photographers.
We are accepting submission into an online gallery on our website for consideration in the calendar.
The gallery is entitled "APAC 2023 Calendar Project (Abbotsford Images Only)"
As the name indicates images must be of subjects and scenes within the Abbotsford City boundaries.
JUNE 17th DEADLINE FOR IMAGE SUBMISSION
We would like you to scour your archives between now and June 17 for any images that showcase Abbotsford. They could be scenes both rural and urban, activities such as parades or celebrations and events such as the Air Show or Agrifair. Also if you have seasonal images that would be even better.
Image Instructions:
Subject Locations: Images must be scenes of Abbotsford and taken within the Abbotsford city boundaries
Image Size: Images submitted to the gallery must be 11.25 inches x 8.75 inches with 300DPI (horizontal and colour only).
Image Title: Make the title of the image the location of the image
We will be adjudicating the images on June 22. Our aim is to have everything ready by mid-September with the intent to market them at the Fall Wine & Art Walk.
Please direct any questions to Phil Dyer

"Almost Touching" by Phil Dyer
Congratulations Phil!!

Phil Dyer
Creating the Magic
Thinking outside the frame has led Phil Dyer to the creation of his unique style of photographic art. Tossing aside one of the basic tenants of photography – keeping your subject sharp – Phil has blurred his images, distilling them into billowing shapes, undulating lines, and glorious colours. His work takes us into a surreal realm, where imagination intersects with unexpected forms and flowing colours.
Phil started experimenting with his style of abstract photography in 2012. His interest was piqued by the work of photographer and artist, Josh Adamski. Adamski’s images struck a chord in Phil and he began his own journey into creating abstract images. “What I enjoy is seeing how each image develops,” says Phil. “It depends on what I start with, and what techniques are applied. Sometimes I like the outcome from a first try and, other times, it takes multiple attempts.”
The first thing Phil looks for is some bright colour in his original image that he thinks will blend well and harmonize with the other tones in his photograph. Using photo editing software, he creates his magic as he transforms an image into stunning art pieces. Some of his images tell a story while others simply stop the viewers in their tracks with their visual impact.
Phil’s image “Almost Touching” is a Canadian Association for Photographic Art (CAPA) award winning photo. It will be exhibited at the APAC Photo show in the Mission Art Gallery, July 5-25, 2022.
Another project was a series of four images which told a story entitled “Attraction”. This set of photos won First Place and a Gold Medal in the Curves and Lines Competition held by the Canadian Association of Photographic Art.
Phil strives to produce images that he would hang on his own wall. It is a bonus for him if viewers engage with his work and enjoy what they see.

APAC is collaborating
with The Fraser Valley Conservancy (FVC) in exploring the topic of climate change in the Fraser Valley.
At our Program Night on March 21st the coordinator of The FVC’s new Close to Home program Laura Brodey spoke to APAC about climate change and the FVC. We did a breakout brainstorming session on photography and it's role and had a first look at some of the images being collected in the galleries we have set up as per below.
If you missed the presentation the slides are available to members only as a pdf in the documents section of the APAC website entitled
FVC Stewarding for Climate Change by Laura Brodey.
As photographers, our great observational skills are important for this, along with our ability to communicate these realities ways that touch people's hearts and minds.
Members have already contributed over 150 relevant images into these two galleries and you can continue to do so as we explore new ways to partner with the FVC in the near future.
These two (2) Galleries are live on our website for members to continue to contributing images that might correspond to some of the topics and ideas both negative and positive with regard to the environment and climate change.
